SHINDIGS
Mar 9 all-day

Standing for Show IN a Day In Guiding and Scouting, Southend Gang Show will once again be putting on SHINDIGS on Saturday 9th March 2019.

Taking place at Shoeburyness High School, Scouts and Guides will get the chance to experience performing on stage in front of a live audience. Participants will rehearse together learning new dance routines, songs and items to act as well as making new friends and having fun. Then in the evening, the Scouts and Guides will perform their newly learnt routines on stage.

Claire Brown, Support Manager for SHINDIGS 2019 spoke of the event ‘SHINDIGS is a fantastic event for young people to get a taste of performing on stage, they learn so much whilst having fun and making plenty of new friends!’

Fortune Garden Fundraiser

On Sunday 24th March at 5.30pm we will be having a social/fundraising evening for families and friends of 3rdCB at Fortune Garden Chinese Restaurant, 1159-1161 London Road, Leigh-on-Sea to raise funds for 3rd Chalkwell Bay.

The prices are £16 for adults and £8 for children (under 10 years old), which will include a three-course meal with a good selection of choices. Options can be provided for Vegetarians, Pescatarians and Vegans – please indicate this on the form .

We are also planning to hold a raffle during the evening, and would welcome donations of prizes – please let me know if you would like to donate a prize or if you have any business contacts who might like to donate a raffle prize to our worthwhile cause.

It’s a great opportunity for a night out with family and friends and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. It should be a great night!

County Backpack

County Backpack is a two day incident hike around the local countryside. Scouts will need to visit as many bases as possible each day, before returning back Thriftwood Scout Campsite. Each base will have a small activity to complete before moving on to the next base.

Teams will need to attend a compulsory base at the start of the day and will then work out their own route, all bases will be manned and will have an activity and a route card to complete before moving to the next base.

Each team must consist of 4-6 Scouts (all of Scout age) and must be able to walk with a lightweight rucksack, teams will not need to carry tents or cooking stoves, but will need lunch and equipment for a day hike.

Group Summer Camp
Jul 27 – Aug 3 all-day
Group Summer Camp @ Haughley Park, Suffolk

This summer we will be holding a Group Camp for Beavers, Cubs, Sea Scouts and Explorers.

We all camp in tents for the week, with Scouts & Explorers cooking in their patrols over open fires in a back to basics style. There will be a number of activities, games and competitions throughout the week as well as a day or two off-site to the beach and/or local town.

Beavers camp for the first weekend, Cubs Saturday to Thursday, Scouts/Explorers Saturday to Saturday.

This year we are using online sign up & payment for Summer Camp. Please visit 3rdCB.org.uk/camp, select the right section and fill in the form to book your child’s space. If you have any questions about the camp or the booking system please speak to your section leader.

Harvest Festival Church Parade

Meet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform as usual. We will parade from The Den to New Road Church. Parents are welcome to join us for the service. We will be finished at The Den at 1215.

As this is the Harvest Festival church parade please bring a non-perishable food item such as TIns or Pasta which will be donated to local charities.

Christmas Toy and Carol Service

Our December Church Parade takes place in The Den, with families and the congregation from the Fisherman’s Chapel invited to join us. This is held as a toy & carol service at our usual time of 10.30 for an 11.00 start on Sunday 16th December.

Families and friends are very welcome to join us to sing some carols, and we will be delighted if you will join us afterwards for mince pies and coffee.

Toy Sunday Service 2014The toys received have gone for many years to the Marigold Centre which gives support to troubled families within Southend Borough. The centre can only accept new toys in their original wrappings (with instructions etc) and not gift wrapped.

For our youth members who are thinking of others at this time of year and wish to donate their own toys that they have either outgrown or don’t use (and maybe make space for their new Christmas presents), we will gladly also receive these, and pass them to  HARP – a local homeless project which we also support. Again, please leave these unwrapped to they can be given out appropriately.

Hopefully you will encourage your child to buy a new gift with their own pocket money to give some joy to a child less fortunate.

 

Skills for Life
