The evenings may still be dark and cold, but that’s not stopped us learning new skills in The Den this term, including cooking, craft, navigation and first aid. Behind the scenes, your leader team have been working hard on upcoming activities such as Easter activities weekend, summer camps, social events and the return of Old Leigh Regatta. Remember, if you went skiing this winter, see your leaders to talk about the snow sports badge.

This Sunday (17th) is our first Church Parade of the year, then a fundraising Chinese meal for all the family in the afternoon, we hope to see you there!

Chinese Meal Fundraiser

Sun 17 Mar – 14:00 @ Zen City

We’re holding a fundraising meal at Zen City Chinese Restaurant, on Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff. It’s another great opportunity to get family, friends and supporters of 3rdCB together socially, and raise funds to support our Scouting activities.

It’s all you can eat – order from the menu and it’s cooked freshly and brought to your table.

The price is £19.95 (£9.95 for children under 12; under 5s go free!). All are welcome so bring your friends along for a great Oriental Sunday dinner – the more the merrier!

District Activity Day

Sat 27 Apr @ Belchamps

To celebrate St Georges Day (the Patron Saint of Scouting), our District Scout Team are putting on an activity day for all of Scouting across Southend West at Belchamps on Sat 27 April.

There will be all kinds of activities put on, for all ages from Beavers to Explorers, including pedal karts, high ropes, bush craft, quad biking to name just a few, all finished off with a camp fire in the evening. Save the date – full details and invites will be coming out shortly once we’ve confirmed the times.

The Den Honours Board

Visitors to The Den can’t miss our honours board in the hall, listing the achievements of our youth members and leaders over nearly a century.

It is in need of a refresh, and we’re looking for a parent/friend who is a carpenter or good with woodwork to help replace the ply, sand and finish it ready for the names to be replaced. We’ve got the wood, just not the skills. If you or someone you know is able to help, please get in touch with us at TheDen@3rdCB.org.uk. We’re also updating the list of awards; any adult or former members that have gained top awards (Queen’s Scout, DofE Gold, Award for Merit etc) through 3rdCB since 2003 please also drop us an email  with your award and the year so we can update the list (we’ve got most, but don’t want to miss anyone out).

Sunday Duty Patrol

We all have a responsibility to keep our HQ clean & tidy. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly.

Please make a note of when your patrol / unit is on duty and make an effort to help out – it’s only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. If you can’t make it, please come along another month and help out then instead.

This year’s rota is at: 3rdCB.org.uk/series/sunday-duty-patrol/ In March is the turn of the Explorer Unit, after Church Parade this Sunday (17th).

New Boating Team Lead

The Group’s Intrepid Water Activities Team has a new team leader – Edward Kemp, one of the Sea Scout Leaders with Solebay Troop, alongside his role a powerboating instructor has taken the helm of the team of volunteers that provide activities and courses afloat across all sections of 3rdCB. Plans for this year’s water activities are well underway and will be published shortly – watch this space.
