On Saturday 8tand Sunday 9th Decembe r 2018\, it has been kindly agreed for Group members to take part in a fun draising event at Morrisons\, London Road\, Hadleigh. The idea is for memb ers to be at the checkouts offering to pack customers shopping for a small donation to the group.

\n

It is anticipated to run the event between 10 and 4 on Saturday and between 11 and 3 on Sunday. This is entirely dep endant on how many members attend. The more of you that attend\, the short er the period each of you will have to spend packing and the longer we can be there collecting. With over 170 members\; Cubs\, Scouts\, and Explorer s (not including Leaders) it should not be hard for each member to attend for an hour or two so that we can have two members per checkout.

\n

M embers will be required to attend in uniform (minus caps). As long as we g et enough volunteers the time slots will be kept to a minimum and there wi ll be no food/drink supplied by the Group or Morrisons. It will be expecte d for members to be dropped off and collected from the Venue. There will b e at least two leaders from various sections present throughout to supervi se the members and to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to Morrisons or their customers.

  Boating Centre3rd Chalkwell B ay have entered a team into HARP 24 to raise funds for Our Big Project – the new boating centre we’re building at our HQ in Old Leigh.

HARP 24 is a 24 hour runni ng race held at Westcliff Rugby Club on Aviation Way\, Southend. It starts at midday on Saturday 25th June and ends Sunday 26th at midday. The idea is to run as many laps as you can within that time\, in a team of any numb er up to 8. The event is fun\, gruelling and exciting. You get to see the sunset\, run in the dark and see sunrise again the next day.

HARP 24The team is mix ed abilities\, ranging from an elite band of parents & leaders to those wh o do a bit of exercise now and again and welcome the challenge and fun of HARP 24:

Th e Leigh Regatta in Leigh-on-Sea is an annual community & charity event org anised by the Sea Scout/Explorer Groups based in the Old Town along with t he Leigh Lions. Each year\, the event raises money for nominated charities as well as for the local Scout Groups around Leigh-on-Sea.

\n

The Ol d Leigh High Street will close for the whole day\, allowing the Leigh Rega tta to take full advantage of the space for all the entertainment\, craft stalls\, side shows\, competitions and water events\, including sailing ru n by EYC & LSC\, the Scout Pentathlon\, Cub Welly Hoying\, live music\, fu n stalls and entertainers.

\n

All Scouts & Explorers are asked to hel p on stalls\, raise money and set up/pack up on the day. We also need supp ort from parents and families on stalls and in the tea tent\, and donation s of prizes for our stalls which raise much-needed funds for 3rdCB. This i s our biggest fund raising event of the year\, if you can help out please talk to any of the leaders.

We’re after donations of cakes\, teddies\, jumble and old crockery\, so if you like backing or are having a post-summer clear ou t\, please drop them into The Den before the Regatta.

We’re also a fter adult help in the tea tent and on the Scout stalls on the day. The evening promises to be great! The band ‘Below Sea Level’ are a very popular band who appeal to all ages and musi c tastes. Doors will open at 7.30pm and the band starts at 8pm\, finishing at 11.30pm in the lower hall of the Leigh Community Centre\, Elm Road.

The return of our incredibly popular May Ball on board HQS Wilton\, The Essex Yacht Club\, raising funds for the Group as well as an excuse for a good social event.

Th e Leigh Regatta in Leigh-on-Sea is an annual community & charity event org anised by the Sea Scout/Explorer Groups based in the Old Town along with t he Leigh Lions. Each year\, the event raises money for nominated charities as well as for the local Scout Groups around Leigh-on-Sea.

\n

The Ol d Leigh High Street will close for the whole day\, allowing the Leigh Rega tta to take full advantage of the space for all the entertainment\, craft stalls\, side shows\, competitions and water events\, including sailing ru n by EYC & LSC\, the Scout Pentathlon\, Cub Welly Hoying\, live music\, fu n stalls and entertainers.

\n

All Scouts & Explorers are asked to hel p on stalls\, raise money and set up/pack up on the day. We also need supp ort from parents and families on stalls and in the tea tent\, and donation s of prizes for our stalls which raise funds for 3rdCB. This is our bigges t fund raising event of the year\, if you can help out please talk to any of the leaders.

We’re after donations of cakes\, teddies\, jumble and old crockery\, so if you like backing or are having a post-summer clea r out\, please drop them into The Den before the Regatta.

We’re al so after adult help in the tea tent and on the Scout stalls on the day. The Group will be taking part in a series of fundraising eve nts at Morrison’s in Hadleigh\, assisting shoppers in packing their shoppi ng bags for a small donation to the Group.

In previous years we have raised several thousand p ounds doing this\; a significant amount of money that helps sustain our ac tivities and equipment\, and keeping subs at a reasonable level.

\n

W e will be there between 10 and 4 on Saturday\, and 11 and 3 on Sunday. Wit h around 170 Cubs\, Scouts and Explorers (not including the Leaders) we ho pe that everyone can attend for an hour or two so that we can have two peo ple on each checkout.

\n

Please come in uniform. The more people that come to help the more money we can raise for activities and equipment.

\n

Please note there will be no food/drink supplied by the Group or Mor risons\, and you will need to dropped off and collected from the store. Th ere will be at least two leaders from various sections present throughout to supervise and to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to Morrison’s o r their customers.

If you have any friends or family in the area t hat need some shopping please get them to pop in and see us.

c2c have kindly given us permission to sing Christmas carols at Leigh-on-Sea station on Thursday 7th December\, a nd collect donations from passengers. We would love to get good mix of all ages from Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts\, & Explorers (and their parents) along to join in and bring some festive cheer to travellers’ commutes between 5 .00 and 7.00pm. 3rdCB are entering a team for HARP24\, a 24 hour team running event raising money for 3rdCB and HARP\, Southend’s homeless charity.

\n

The event takes place at Westcliff Rugby club on 23rd-24 th June. The teams run (as best as possible) a non-stop relay for 24 hours . This can be run or walked\, and there is no target on the number or spee d of laps. The objective is to have a personal challenge\, have fun (maybe dress up?)\, and raise some funds for Harp and 3rd CB. No-one should feel they can’t contribute.

\n

In 2016 our team of 8 comprising leaders\, fathers and friends raised over £1\,000. We all achieved more than expect ed\, we ate more BBQ than the calories we ran off\, we slept (ish) under s cout canvass and enjoyed the experience of running through day\, night and twilight.
