February 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to your February update, and welcome to new parents and youth members who’ve joined 3rdCB this term, we hope you’re enjoying it so far.

Over the past month we’ve been mostly inside, celebrating Chinese New Year with cooking, making origami and learning about oriental culture; getting ready for the sailing season by brushing up on knots; the Explorers turned The Den into a battleground, building cardboard castles then destroying them with a nerf assault; and Renown Troop have made a lot of mess making mini golf courses and creating their own fashion from recycling.

The leader team have been out and about searching new sites for Summer Camp in July (26 Jul – 2 Aug), and have found a spectacular new site on the Elveden Estate in Suffolk which we’ll be staying at this year. More details on Summer Camp will be coming out in due course.

Thank you to all the parents and Scouts that helped us give The Den a spring clean last weekend, it looks so much better with painted walls and pictures up again ready for the year ahead. In this months issue:

Apres Ski Party

We’re bringing the Alps to Old Leigh, with our first Apres Ski Party on Saturday 1 March.

There’s a live DJ, cocktail bar and pizza stand, as well as lots of surprise après ski magic to make it feel just like you’re on your favourite winter holiday! A great time out for family and friends.

Tickets are just £10 (£7.50 for age 12 & under; under 5s go free), so bring your friends and family for a great night out.

All proceeds go towards supporting 3rd Chalkwell Bay and our Scouting activities for young people in Old Leigh.Get your tickets at 3rdCB.org.uk/apres

Presentation Evening

Well done to all of our young people who received awards and prizes at our Presentation Evening in January, and especially to the Scouts of Solebay Troop for showing off their flashmob dancing to open the evening.

Next year we’re going to invite Guinness World Records along to see if the Scouts can break the speed record for clearing a table of cakes & cookies!

Snow Sports Badges

With half term approaching, we know a number of you might be hitting the snow? Did you know there’s a Snow Sports Badge you can do? There are 4 different stages you can achieve for all abilities, whether its your first time on the slopes or you can breeze a black run. Full details of what you need to do are at www.scouts.org.uk/staged-badges/snowsports/. Just print out the requirements, get your ski instructor to sign the level you’re at, and give the sheet to your leaders. You can even do Stage 1 on an indoor or dry slope!
