Christmas Carol and Toy Service – 11 Dec

Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel and collect toys for troubled and needy families in the Southend area.

This year it is on Sunday 11 December, starting at 11:00; all young people, parents and friends are very welcome to join us.

We’re again collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of the Marigold Centre. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books, these can be new, as new, unwanted gifts or something out-grown, all unwrapped please.

The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service.

We usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always, your contribution is much appreciated. After the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

Presentation Evening

Sat 4 February 2023 @ 19:00

Our annual presentation evening is our chance to celebrate the achievements of our youth members over the past year, present awards, and show you what we’ve been up to in the past 12 months.

This year’s event will be at Leigh Road Baptist Church, the doors are open from 1830 for a 1900 start.  All members of the Group and their parents/family are invited to attend (full uniform for members please).

After the presentations there will be a selection of refreshments, and you’ll have the chance to look at the photos of the years activities to see what we’ve been up to, as well as to meet the leader team & other parents. If you have a trophy at home from last year, please can you return it to your leaders to be awarded to this year’s winners.

Fundraising Events

Scouting’s not just for kids, and we’d like to thank everyone who’s supported our recent fundraising events in and around The Den, raising funds to support activities for our youth members.

These have included our black-tie Trafalgar Night Dinner, Christmas Wreath Making and a Quiz Night supporting Henry’s trip to the World Scout Jamboree. They’ve been great fun with great company. Watch this space for more events coming soon.

Merry Christmas from the Group Scout Leader

Another successful year for the Group packed with fun and adventure for all our members closes. I would like to thank all those that have dedicated their time working for the Group. It is now time for everyone to look forward to a well earned rest and enjoy some time with family and friends. I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all back in the New Year for an even more successful year.

Support us when you’re Christmas shopping online

We know everyone is doing a lot of online shopping in the run up to Christmas, and you can help us whilst doing it! We have two schemes that help us raise money while you shop and help us keep running great activities:

Amazon Smile

Select us as your charity with Amazon Smile at smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/302078-0 which will automatically raise funds for 3rdCB on most purchases, at no extra cost to you. Once added just access Amazon via smile.amazon.co.uk and it’s all automatic!

EasyFundraising

This brings us in donations from hundreds of the most popular websites (raising over £2,000 so far!). Sign up and shop at easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/3rdchalkwellbayssg/ Over 4,000 shops and sites will donate, including all the big names like eBay, John Lewis & Partners, Argos, ASOS, Expedia, M&S, Just Eat, Uswitch and many more! You can even install a simple reminder on your favourite browser that tells you when the site you’re on will give us a donation. This is really easy to do and takes only a couple of minutes to set up, plus it raises a significant amount for the group.
