DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. SUMMARY:Zen with Ben Soundbath
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of relaxation in by the sea Old Leigh. Zen with Ben is providing the chill out vibes with a Soundbath evening at The Den\, helping us fundraise to support 3rdCB’s Scouting activities. \n\n\n\nA Soundbath is a relaxing experience where crystal singing bowls and instruments create resonant tones that help calm the nervous system. Simply lie down and allow the sound vibrations to guide you into a relaxed state. \n\n\n\nThe jetty will be open for anyone wanting to enjoy the sea breeze or swim in the creek from 6pm (All swimming at your own risk: no lifeguard on duty). \n\n\n\nYou may wish to bring a pillow and blanket\, and wear comfortable clothes for the sound bath. Air mattresses will be provided. \n\n\n\nOver 18s only please. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that Soundbaths are not suitable for individuals with pacemakers\, epilepsy\, non-titanium metal implants or those in the third trimester of pregnancy. If you are unsure whether a Soundbath is suitable for you\, please consult a medical professional before attending.

SUMMARY:RYA Sailing Stage 1&2 Course
DESCRIPTION:Start sailing\n\n\n\nAn introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing. This course will teach you launching and recovery\, sailing across the wind\, turning around\, steering and basic parts of the boat. By the end of you course you’ll be able to sail across the wind\, steer and understand the basic principles of sailing. On the second day you will develop the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor. This course will teach you improved sailing skills on all points of sail\, along with tacking\, gybing\, ropework and collision avoidance. \n\n\n\nThis course will be prioritised for young people booked on courses last year where the practical elements were not completed due to poor weather. \n\n\n\nDuration: 2 days (attendance is required both days) \n\n\n\nSaturday – 0900-1700Sunday – 090p-1700 \n\n\n\nWho: Sea Scouts and Explorer Sea Scouts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to bring: You will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat and get wet in. This means swimming gear\, a wetsuit if you have one (don’t worry if not\, we have some you can borrow)\, a complete change of clothes\, and a towel! You will also need some old trainers / plimsolls / boat shoes for your feet. Jeans\, wellies\, flip-flops and bare-feet are not appropriate. \n\n\n\nWe will provide you with a buoyancy aid. \n\n\n\nYou will also need a packed lunch or money for chips! It is worth having a few snacks with you in-case we have a late lunch. \n\n\n\nWeather warning: All courses are dependant on weather and the availability of our volunteer instructors\, and therefore may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. If we do have to cancel a course we will email you and it will be published on the 3rdCB Members Facebook group\, so please check prior to travelling to The Den if the weather is not looking good.

Sunday 0900-1700. \n\n\n\nWho: Sea Scouts and Explorer Sea Scouts. \n\n\n\nPre-requisites: RYA Sailing Stage 2 (unless agreed in advance with the instructor team)\, and at least 6 hours of practice logged over 3-4 sessions (either at The Den or your own sailing club)\, recorded in your log book.

DESCRIPTION:Alongside Scouting\, 3rd Chalkwell Bay gives Sea Scouts and Explorers the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) with us\, building on their Scouting skills and encouraging them to learn new ones.  \n\n\n\nWe are holding an information and registration evening on Tuesday 29 September from 20:00\, where you can find out more about what the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is. \n\n\n\nParticipants must be minimum of Year 9 currently to register for Bronze. We have run this at 3rd CB for the past 8 years and participants have successfully completed Bronze\, Silver and Gold Awards\, we plan to run all these award levels again in 2027. \n\n\n\nParticipation will involve 3 weekends of training\, practice and assessed expeditions as well as some evening calls to support with their completion of the Skills\, Volunteering and Physical sections. \n\n\n\nYou can find out more about the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at 3rdCB.org.uk/dofe/ or on the DofE website at www.DofE.org \n\n\n\nInvites have been sent out via the Parent Portal to all those we think are eligible\, but if you’ve been missed and would like to join our evening session please could you drop us an email to dofe@3rdCB.org.uk so we can make sure there are enough chairs and literature available.
