Solebay Sea Scout Troop

Solebay Sea Scout Troop is our girls Scout Troop, who meet on Monday nights at The Den. Originally SRS Solebay Sea Ranger Crew, we transferred to be Scouts in 2014.  Although the two Troops meet on different nights, we run a lot of combined activities weekly and throughout the year, the highlight being Summer Camp in July and the Easter walking week in Derbyshire.

Solebay meet every Monday night at the Den between 1900 and 2130.

The Troop aims to help girls and young women develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually so they become well balanced individuals and can make a positive contribution to their community and wider world.

This is achieved by offering a rounded programme of boating activities such as rowing, sailing, canoeing, powerboating and offshore sailing and other outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and orienteering. At the weekly meetings the girls work towards skills badges to develop themselves personally and take part in team tasks involving cooking, craft, fashion shows with outfits made from rubbish, keep fit, badgework, role-play, fancy knotting, 1st aid and many other exciting challenges.

So if you feel you would like to be challenged, make lifelong friends, have fun and adventure, then come and join us.

Scout Summer Camp
Jul 24 – Jul 31 all-day

One of the highlights of the Scouting calendar – our annual summer camp.  With social distancing restrictions easing  and all restrictions due to be be lifted on 21st June, we are planning to run Summer Camp for both Renown and Solebay Troops at the beginning of the summer holidays.

This year we’re returning to one of our favourite sites at Marlesford, near Wickham Market in Suffolk, from Saturday 24th to Saturday 31st July.

The focus of the camp is back to basics: the Scouts in their patrols in tents for the week, cooking for themselves over open fires. There’s a packed programme of training, activities, games and competitions throughout the week, as well as a day or two off site to the beach or local town and the chance to relax around the camp fire in the evenings.

Take a look back through the 2019 Summer Camp album to see more of what do.

Cost: £165

The cost of the week will be £165 which covers everything. A deposit of £65 is required by Friday 28th May, with the balance by Friday 9th July. The deposit is non-refundable, unless we are forced to cancel the camp (eg a chance in COVID restrictions), in which case we’ll provide full refunds.

How to book

Advance Party

The Advance Party of leaders and Patrol Leaders will leave on Friday 23rd July to get the majority of the tents and other large equipment pitched and set up before the rest of the Troops arrive on the Saturday.

Summer camp is of course subject to the COVID conditions in force at the time, but it’s looking really positive at the moment and we want to plan for success. If the situation changes and we can’t run the event we’ll provide full refunds.

EYC Cadet Week @ Essex Yacht Club

Essex Yacht Club Cadet Week 2021.

3rdCB are invited to enter Scouts/Explorers into their annual Cadet Week – a week of racing, fun & games, and social activities based at EYC’s HQ “Wilton”. Members may borrow dinghies from The Den to enter (single or double handed). It’s a really fun week both on and off the water, and the sailing experience of Scouts who’ve entered previously has increased immeasurably.

Official bits – Please note that this is not a Scouting activity, one parent is expected to be present at the Yacht Club during the day to help out with the event and be responsible for their child. Prior sailing experience is required for the use of 3rdCB boats – RYA Stage 2 and experience sailing Topazes is generally the minimum standard, but please talk to the the sailing instructors about it beforehand. We’re not able to provide tuition during the week.

Email Boating@3rdCB.org.uk, or see Chris Grover or Chris Daly for details.

3rdCB will assist with safety boat cover.
