SUMMARY:District Activity Day
DESCRIPTION:Activities day at Belchamps on Sat 27 Apr for Beavers\, Cubs and Scouts from across Southend West Scout District. A huge variety of adventurous activities and games available\, culminating with a big camp fire. There are a huge number of activities on offer\, with the attached map highlighting a few of them and where they’ll be on site\, all finishing off with a big camp fire where we’ll renew our Scouting Promises for the year ahead. \n\n\n\nWe’ve received the final details from the organising team to share with you\, including an update on times. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday 27 April. 0900 – 2100 (note revised times). If you need to arrive late or leave early\, please talk to your child’s leader in advance. \n\n\n\nThere will be a lot of other scouts from all over Southend arriving on Saturday morning (including over 100 from 3rdCB alone) so timings have been staggered to ease the traffic. If you can share lifts please do. The drop off and pick up area is the overflow car park by the front gate\, and exiting at the bottom of the site via Hawkwell Chase. \n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive as close to 0900 as possible.\n\n\n\nWe will finish after the camp fire for a pick up at 2100.\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Belchamps Scout Activity Centre. (SS5 4JD. Maps Link)\, 3rdCB will be based in the PHC building just by the front entrance (look for our scarf on the attached map)\, and bags can be left in there. \n\n\n\nCost: Free! \n\n\n\nWear: 3rdCB polo / tshirt and scarf. Activity trousers (or shorts if it’s warm) and trainers. Bring a jumper (3rdCB hoodie ideal if you have one) and waterproof jacket. \n\n\n\nBring: \n\n\n\n\nPacked lunch and water bottle (both named). Any medicines needed during the day (asthma pump\, epipen etc; please inform leaders if it’s anything we’re not already aware of).\n\n\n\nTowel and change of clothes (there’s a water slide if they’re feeling brave!)\n\n\n\nSmall amount of spending money for the shop (optional)\n\n\n\n\nFood: \n\n\n\n\nAttendees will need a named packed lunch with them\, including some snacks for during the day and a full water bottle. There is no other lunch available!\n\n\n\nNo Nuts – Please don’t send any products containing nuts as we have several young people with severe allergies.\n\n\n\nWe’ll provide a light dinner before the camp fire in the evening. Please make sure any dietary requirements are correct in the Parent Portal.\n\n\n\n\nPermission to shoot form: Activities on offer include air rifle and crossbow shooting\, great activities but these require specific parental permission (under Sect 21 of the Firearms Act 1968). If your child would like to take part in these activities please can you print\, fill in and sign the permission form (available in the Parent Portal) for them to bring with them (it will be exchanged for a wristband on the day). Without this form they will not be allowed to take part in shooting activities (the leaders can’t sign on your behalf). \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please speak to your child’s leaders in the first instance.

SUMMARY:Christmas Toy & Carol Service
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for troubled and needy families in the Southend area. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of the Marigold Centre. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nThe obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:Each year the Group represents the Scouting and the youth of our city at Southend Cenotaph for the annual Service of Remembrance. All Sea Scouts and Explorers are expected to attend this service (one of only two events a year we place a greater emphasis on all members attending)\, to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. \n\n\n\nWhen: Sun 12 Nov – 10:15 to 12:00.Where: Clifftown Parade\, by Prittlewell Square Gardens (SS1 1DW).Wear: Full uniform\, with poppy. Dark coat only if raining.Who: All Sea Scouts (Renown & Solebay Troops) and Explorer Sea Scouts. \n\n\n\nWe will meet on Clifftown Parade\, Southend\, by Prittlewell Square Gardens and the Queen Victoria Statue at 10:15. The service and parade will finish at approximately 12:00 back at the start. Parents and friends are very welcome to watch the parade and service. \n\n\n\nFull uniform is to be worn\, including a poppy that should be worn above the bow on the cap tally band (or on the left breast if you don’t yet have a cap). It is generally cold so please make sure that you have a good hot breakfast before coming and that you wear a few layers under your uniform jumper. Coats will only be worn if it rains. Those members with long hair should wear it fastened up in a bun with a hair net. DESCRIPTION:Parade Service to New Road Fishermen’s Chapel in Old Leigh\, celebrating and giving thanks for the Harvest. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo celebrate the harvest\, for October’s Church Parade we’ll be collecting donations of tinned\, dried and long-life food\, snacks and toiletries\, which will be donated through our friends at HARP Southend to our city’s less fortunate residents. If you can\, please bring a donation of one of the items above\, either on the day or beforehand on your usual meeting night\, which will be donated to HARP to support their fantastic work. \n\n\n\nWe parade through the Old Town with colours flying to the chapel\, returning to The Den on completion. We are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. All sections are welcome to attend\, and it counts towards several challenge & activity badges.

DESCRIPTION:One of the highlights of the Scouting calendar – our summer camp this year will be held from Saturday 22nd July to Saturday 29th July. We will be camping with Solebay Troop at Haughley Park in Suffolk. \n\n\n\nThe focus of the camp is back to basics: the Scouts camp in their patrols in tents for the week\, cooking for themselves over open fires. There’s a packed programme of training\, activities\, games and competitions throughout the week\, as well as a day or two off site to the beach or local town\, and the chance to relax around the camp fire in the evenings. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the week is £180\, which covers everything including food\, coach travel\, site hire\, activities etc\, although a small amount of pocket money is recommended for trips into town or the tuck shop. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBook your child’s place at attend summer camp by responding to the email\, or by logging into the OSM Parent Portal. You will then have the option to pay the camp fees. It’s as simple as that. Payment is through OSM in the same way that membership fees are paid. \n\n\n\nTo help parents budget\, payments are in three instalments due at the beginning of May\, June and July. All payments are required\, and the first is a non-refundable deposit. \n\n\n\nAdvance Party \n\n\n\nThe Advance Party of leaders and Patrol Leaders will leave on Friday 21st July to get the majority of the tents and other large equipment pitched and set up before the rest of the Group arrive on the Saturday.

To help parents budget\, this year we’re asking for payments in three instalments of £50 each at the beginning of May\, June and July\, the first of which is a non-refundable deposit.  \n\n\n\nPlaces are limited to 28 Cubs.

SUMMARY:Beaver Summer Camp

To keep costs down there will be no coach bringing the Beavers back on Monday\, and we ask parents to collect from the site on Monday evening (details will be sent out nearer the time). \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the camp is £60 which covers everything\, including food\, travel there\, site hire and activities. To make it easier for parents with several children to budget\, this year we’ve split payments into three\, each a month apart. All three payments are required; the first of which is a non-refundable deposit. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBook your child’s place at summer camp by logging into OSM with the link above\, and clicking “yes they will attend”\, you will then have the option to pay the deposit and balance. SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in.
