SUMMARY:Young Leader Training
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwise; not held in April or August). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

DESCRIPTION:RYA First Aid course which will satisfy the RYA Instructor and Scout Association First Aid Course requirements. This course is run over two evenings on Tue 25 Feb & 11 Mar\, you must attend both sessions to complete the course. Then join the team at Southend Gang Show for a day of singing\, dancing\, performing and drama\, and show it all off in a performance in the evening. \n\n\n\n\nStanding for SHow IN a Day In Guiding and Scouting\, SHINDIGS is a fast paced\, action packed day where Scouts and Guides from the Southend\, Castle Point and Crouch Valley area come together to put on a Gang Show in a day. \n\n\n\nIf you are a Scout\, Explorer or leader and love performing then SHINDIGS is for you. It’s a great way for Scouts and Guides to give Gang Show a try\, learn some new skills and make new friendships before making the commitment and signing up for our ‘It’s a Date’ show. \n\n\n\nMeeting at 10am\, you’ll rehearse throughout the day\, then put on a show in the evening at 7.30pm. SUMMARY:Power Cox'n Course
DESCRIPTION:RYA Powerboat Level 1 / Power Cox’n Course for older Scouts\, to teach additional skills on the water beyond sailing. \n\n\n\nThis provides a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It covers boating techniques for everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. It is linked to the Scouts’ Power Cox’n badge. \n\n\n\nDuration: 1 day \n\n\n\nMinimum age: 12 \n\n\n\nCost: £20 (to cover the RYA logbook\, certificate and RIB boat fuel) \n\n\n\nMax on course: 6 \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: You will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat in. It’s still March and cold out\, so jumpers and waterproofs\, plus boat shoes or trainers that can get wet\, a complete change of clothes\, and a towel! We will provide a buoyancy aid. \n\n\n\nYou will also need a packed lunch or money for chips! It is worth having a few snacks with you in-case we have a late lunch. \n\n\n\nAll courses are weather dependant\, and therefore may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. If we do have to cancel a course it will be published on the group Facebook page\, and you will be advised by e-mail\, so please check this prior to travelling to The Den if the weather is not looking good.

DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. DESCRIPTION:Parade Service to New Road Fishermen’s Chapel in Old Leigh. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform. \n\n\n\nWe parade through the Old Town with colours flying to the chapel\, returning to The Den on completion. We are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. All sections are welcome to attend\, and it counts towards several challenge & activity badges.
