DESCRIPTION:We’ll be helping the Leigh Lions Club with their annual Duck Race along Leigh Creek. Hundreds of rubber ducks will be racing along the creek from Bell Wharf to Osbornes’ Cafe\, raising money for charity – you can buy a duck\, and if your duck wins you win a prize! \n\n\n\nThe Scouts and Explorers will be helping them along the way from the creek. SUMMARY:Young Leader Training
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwide). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. SUMMARY:Beaver Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:One of the highlights of the Scouting calendar – our Beaver summer camp this year will be held from Saturday 22nd July to Monday 24th July. We will be camping with the Cubs at an old 3rdCB favourite in Haughley Park\, Suffolk. The Sea Scout Troops will also be on the same site\, but camping separately a bit further away from us. \n\n\n\nThe focus of the camp is back to basics: the Beavers camp together in tents\, eating in a mess tent with the Cubs. There’s a packed programme of training\, activities\, games and adventures over the long weekend\, and even a camp fire for them to join in with and sing around. \n\n\n\nTravel \n\n\n\nThe Beavers will travel to the site by coach with the Cubs and Scouts on the Saturday morning. To keep costs down there will be no coach bringing the Beavers back on Monday\, and we ask parents to collect from the site on Monday evening (details will be sent out nearer the time). \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the camp is £60 which covers everything\, including food\, travel there\, site hire and activities. To make it easier for parents with several children to budget\, this year we’ve split payments into three\, each a month apart. All three payments are required; the first of which is a non-refundable deposit. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBook your child’s place at summer camp by logging into OSM with the link above\, and clicking “yes they will attend”\, you will then have the option to pay the deposit and balance. It’s as simple as that. \n\n\n\nPlease confirm and pay by Friday 23th June; payments are processed through OSM in the same way that membership fees are paid.

There’s a packed programme of activities and games throughout the week\, including a cooking over fires\, and a big camp fire for the whole Group on the final night. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the week will be £150 which covers everything\, including food\, coach travel\, site hire\, activities etc. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBooking is via the OSM Parent Portal\, in the same way that membership fees are paid. To help parents budget\, this year we’re asking for payments in three instalments of £50 each at the beginning of May\, June and July\, the first of which is a non-refundable deposit.  \n\n\n\nPlaces are limited to 28 Cubs.

There’s a packed programme of training\, activities\, games and competitions throughout the week\, as well as a day or two off site to the beach or local town\, and the chance to relax around the camp fire in the evenings. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the week is £180\, which covers everything including food\, coach travel\, site hire\, activities etc\, although a small amount of pocket money is recommended for trips into town or the tuck shop. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBook your child’s place at attend summer camp by responding to the email\, or by logging into the OSM Parent Portal. You will then have the option to pay the camp fees. It’s as simple as that. Payment is through OSM in the same way that membership fees are paid. \n\n\n\nTo help parents budget\, payments are in three instalments due at the beginning of May\, June and July. All payments are required\, and the first is a non-refundable deposit. \n\n\n\nAdvance Party \n\n\n\nThe Advance Party of leaders and Patrol Leaders will leave on Friday 21st July to get the majority of the tents and other large equipment pitched and set up before the rest of the Group arrive on the Saturday.
