DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. DESCRIPTION:The opportunity for our younger members to get out on the water for a day’s sailing. \n\n\n\nBeavers & Cubs will need a spare change of clothes\, towel & something warm to wear afterwards\, plus boat shoes or old trainers that can get wet (not flip flops). We have a few wetsuits that can be borrowed but a limited number of sizes. DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwide). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

SUMMARY:Armed Forces Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:Joining Southend’s celebration of the contribution of the UK’s armed forces community as the annual parade returns to the city centre. \n\n\n\n\nWe’re very proud of our Royal Navy Recognition and links to His Majesty’s Armed Forces\, and have been invited to represent Scouting at Southend’s Armed Forces Day Parade on 29 Jun\, along with armed forces units\, veterans groups and other youth organisations. \n\n\n\nWe’d like to encourage all Sea Scouts and Explorers over 12½ to attend the parade and show the strength of Sea Scouting in our city. \n\n\n\nWe will muster under the Railway bridge on Southend High Street at 10am\, ready to step off at 10:30. The parade will march to Victoria Circus for an open air Church Service. We expect to be complete by 12:00. \n\n\n\nFamily and friends are of course very welcome to stay and watch\, and there are usually a variety of stalls and attractions along the high street.

SUMMARY:Open Sailing
DESCRIPTION:Open boating session at The Den for all Sea Scouts and Explorers. \n\n\n\nSessions for any Scout or Explorer to go on the water sailing or on our other boats. Sessions are always supervised by a suitable leader\, and no experience is necessary. There is no charge for participating in open boating\, just ensure you are down in time for the start time above. \n\n\n\nYou will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat which you don’t mind getting wet (and you will get wet!). Footwear is required on the water – wet boots or old trainers are ideal\, flips flops and wellies are not appropriate. Buoyancy aids are mandatory for all activities on the water\, and will be supplied. You may also want to bring a packed lunch and drink\, or money for chips. \n\n\n\nAll water activities are dependant on weather and suitable leader cover\, so may be cancelled at short notice – check the Members Facebook Group for last minute changes.

DESCRIPTION:Open boating session at The Den for all Sea Scouts and Explorers. \n\n\n\nSessions for any Scout or Explorer to go on the water sailing or on our other boats. Sessions are always supervised by a suitable leader\, and no experience is necessary. There is no charge for participating in open boating\, just ensure you are down in time for the start time above. \n\n\n\nYou will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat which you don’t mind getting wet (and you will get wet!). Footwear is required on the water – wet boots or old trainers are ideal\, flips flops and wellies are not appropriate. Buoyancy aids are mandatory for all activities on the water\, and will be supplied. You may also want to bring a packed lunch and drink\, or money for chips. \n\n\n\nAll water activities are dependant on weather and suitable leader cover\, so may be cancelled at short notice – check the Members Facebook Group for last minute changes.

SUMMARY:Essex International Jamboree
DESCRIPTION:EIJ2024 is coming\, and the Explorers will be going! We will be returning to Boyton Cross\, Chelmsford from the 27th July to 3rd August 2024 for another unforgettable seven days and nights\, bringing Scouts and Guides together from across the UK and around the world. \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, we saw 10\,000 of us (including over 2\,000 volunteers) come together\, making international friendships and challenging ourselves with over 100 activities from abseiling to zorbing.  \n\n\n\nWhat is the Essex International Jamboree (EIJ)?\n\n\n\nPut simply\, it’s an enormous camp for Scouts and Guides from around the world; it lasts 1 week\, but takes years to plan.  It’s a famous event in the Scout and Girlguiding world\, and is renowned for being one of the best jamborees. \n\n\n\nThe event is held in a huge field every four years at Boyton Cross near Chelmsford. This 120-acre green field is transformed by 1\,500 volunteers into a fully operational tented village.  By this we mean it has all the facilities you’d expect – water\, showers\, toilets\, electrics\, communications\, food distribution\, health and welfare services and even a beach! \n\n\n\nOn Saturday 27th July 2024\, our Jamboree will open again to 10\,000 Scouts and Guides from all over the world to camp together for a week of fun\, discovery and adventure\, embracing the spirit of Girlguiding and Scouting. \n\n\n\nWe have a varied and exciting programme of activities including a range of adventurous\, creative and cultural activities following the Scout and Guide programme\, as well as opportunities to meet new friends from around the world. \n\n\n\nIn the evening the Jamboree becomes even more vibrant with lots of different entertainment venues and activities. \n\n\n\nEssex International Jamboree promises to be an unforgettable experience\, providing skills for life\, building new friendships\, and memories to last a lifetime. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTake a look at our Essex Jamboree 2016 Photo Gallery\, and see what the Scouts got up to.

SUMMARY:EYC Cadet Week
DESCRIPTION:3rdCB are invited to enter Scouts/Explorers who aren’t already members of Essex Yacht Club to the Club’s annual Cadet Week – a week of racing\, fun & games\, and social activities based at EYC’s HQ “Wilton”\, and may borrow sailing dinghies from The Den to enter (single or double handed). It’s a really fun week both on and off the water\, and the sailing experience of Scouts who’ve entered previously has increased immeasurably. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this is not a Scouting activity\, one parent is expected to be present at the Yacht Club during the day to help out with the event and be responsible for their child. Prior sailing experience is required for the use of 3rdCB boats: to the standard of RYA Stage 2 – the ability to rig\, launch & sail unsupervised is the minimum expectation\, but please talk to the the sailing instructors about it beforehand if in doubt. We’re not able to provide tuition during the week. \n\n\n\n3rdCB will be assisting with safety boat cover. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA separate cadet week registration form will be sent to be completed for EYC to confirm attendance once we’ve allocated a boat.

SUMMARY:Old Leigh Regatta
DESCRIPTION:A weekend of family fun across Old Leigh hosted by 3rd Chalkwell Bay and 4th / 6th Leigh Sea Scouts\, and we need your help to make it a fantastic weekend. \n\n\n\nIn addition to the traditional sailing races\, welly-hoying\, tug-o-war and cockle eating competitions\, there will be scores of local community stalls\, games\, live music\, entertainment and activities for all the family. \n\n\n\nFor those that haven’t been to Leigh Regatta before\, it’s a weekend long family street festival in the Old Town\, organised by the Old Leigh Sea Scout Groups (3rdCB and 4th/6th Leigh). The road is closed and filled with stalls\, games\, entertainment\, live music\, sailing and competitions between the Sea Scout Groups. Traditionally it has been one of our biggest fundraising events of the year and a huge amount of fun. For various reasons it hasn’t run for a few years so we’re very excited to have it back on the programme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe need help from the Scouts and Explorers over the weekend to run stalls\, games\, help set up\, and take part in the competitions on and off the water – specifically we need: \n\n\n\n\nHelp on both days from about 9am till 6pm (Regatta opens 11am\, finishes about 6pm)\n\n\n\nSetting up and taking down of stalls\n\n\n\nRunning the game stalls (Bat the Rat\, Hook a Duck\, Darts in Envelopes)\n\n\n\nRunning a balloon stall and helping on the information stand\n\n\n\nTaking part in competitions with 4th/6th Leigh – tug o war\, bowsprit pillow fights\, dinghy races and sailing races.\n\n\n\nAdults (parents\, family\, friends) to help as stewards for the event – let us know online if you can help as a steward.\n\n\n\n\nCubs and Beavers are really welcome to come and help out as well with their parents\, and take part in the many activities on offer.  \n\n\n\n3rd CB receiving a portion of the profits from the weekend which helps with running costs for the Group. If all Scouts and Explorers can help\, even just for an hour or two\, it will be much appreciated. Help from parents\, siblings and family is also very welcome\, and it’s a great atmosphere. \n\n\n\nScouts don’t need to wear full uniform\, but please do wear a Group Polo shirt and scarf during the day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPunch and Judy in The Den

SUMMARY:Young Leader Training
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwide). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. DESCRIPTION:Prepare for an invigorating and demanding challenge at the County Marathon! \n\n\n\nIt’s a two day incident hike\, teams will need to navigate around the bases planning their own routes. It’s crucial to ensure you and your team of 4-6 members are well-prepared for this physically demanding yet thrilling event. The event is open to Explorer\, Network and adult teams.  All bases will be manned by volunteer leaders so if you’re interested in helping us run the event\, please sign up below. \n\n\n\nArrival at site from 6pm on Friday and the event finishes at 3pm on Sunday. Each team must carry all of their equipment needed for the weekend\, including tents\, food and stoves. Teams will be provided with breakfast on Saturday Morning and Lunch on Sunday afternoon.
