SUMMARY:Christmas Toy & Carol Service
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for troubled and needy families in the Southend area. \nWe’re again collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of the Marigold Centre. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. \nThe obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

SUMMARY:Young Leader Training
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwide). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Easter Walking and Activity Week to Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District will take place during the first week of the Easter holidays from Saturday 1 – 8 April\, open to all Scouts in Renown and Solebay Troops. \n\n\n\nWe have a varied programme including hill walking\, swimming and other activities such as cycling and low-level climbing\, as well as the opportunity to head into the local village and activities & games in the centre. We have exclusive use of the Rotary Centre in Castleton\, with several buildings including a purpose-build dormitory block with bunk bed accommodation in rooms of four and central heating. \n\n\n\nWalking groups are based on age and experience\, and are led by an experienced leader or instructor. For the older Scouts there will be the opportunity (weather permitting) to complete a two-day expedition challenge\, as part of the Chief Scout’s Award\, an experience that will leave some great memories. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe week costs £250\, which includes all transport\, activities\, accommodation\, and food and represents excellent value for money for a full week away. Numbers are limited to 36 Sea Scouts and will be allocated on a first come\, first served basis. \n\n\n\nA £50 deposit is required on booking\, with the balance by 10 March. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nPlease book at https://bookwhen.com/3rdcb-activities/e/ev-shk1-20230401000000 and pay the deposit to secure your child’s place. Invoices for the balance payment (if not paid when booking) will be sent out nearer the time through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nEquipment \n\n\n\nWalking boots (not DM’s) and decent waterproofs are essential for this trip\, and the Group has a number of good quality waterproofs and rucksacks that can be hired. There is a small hire charge of £5 per item to cover wear & tear and to help cover the cost of cleaning and replacing them. These borrowed items will be collected at the end of the week before we return home. \n\n\n\nPre-Trip Meeting \n\n\n\nWe hold a pre-trip meeting for parents and those going on the trip at The Den on Tuesday 14th March at 7.30pm\, All those attending the trip should attend. Group equipment will be available to hire on this evening.
