SUMMARY:Power Cox'n Course
DESCRIPTION:RYA Powerboat Level 1 / Power Cox’n Course for older Scouts\, to teach additional skills on the water beyond sailing. \n\n\n\nThis provides a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It covers boating techniques for everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. It is linked to the Scouts’ Power Cox’n badge. \n\n\n\nDuration: 1 day \n\n\n\nMinimum age: 12 \n\n\n\nCost: £20 (to cover the RYA logbook\, certificate and RIB boat fuel) \n\n\n\nMax on course: 6 \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: You will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat in. It’s still March and cold out\, so jumpers and waterproofs\, plus boat shoes or trainers that can get wet\, a complete change of clothes\, and a towel! We will provide a buoyancy aid. \n\n\n\nYou will also need a packed lunch or money for chips! It is worth having a few snacks with you in-case we have a late lunch. \n\n\n\nAll courses are weather dependant\, and therefore may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. If we do have to cancel a course it will be published on the group Facebook page\, and you will be advised by e-mail\, so please check this prior to travelling to The Den if the weather is not looking good.

It’s a great way for Scouts and Guides to give Gang Show a try\, learn some new skills and make new friendships before making the commitment and signing up for our ‘It’s a Date’ show. \n\n\n\nMeeting at 10am\, you’ll rehearse throughout the day\, then put on a show in the evening at 7.30pm. DESCRIPTION:Monthly Young Leader training sessions open to all Explorer Scout Young Leaders within 3rdCB and across Southend West District on the second Tuesday of each month (unless advertised otherwise; not held in April or August). \n\n\n\nThe Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role\, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support. \n\n\n\nAs well as developing valuable life skills\, the scheme is an opportunity for Explorers to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts\, or their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recognition of achievement is available along the way\, and on completion of the Scheme\, the Young Leader is awarded with an Explorer Scout Young Leader belt buckle.

DESCRIPTION:Give our HQ a spring clean and tidy up ready for the year ahead. The day will involve cleaning\, painting\, putting blinds up as well as a number of other tasks.   \n\n\n\nWe are asking parents and friends to help where possible with the aim to get a lot done in one day. Leaders will be there too but the more help we can get\, the more we can get done.   \n\n\n\nThe general list of tasks are below and if you are available to help with any certain area\, please can you email Jon Whiteley who is coordinating the day so we can get various teams lined up – jwhiteley@3rdcb.org.uk \n\n\n\n\nPainting of walls – touch up the many scuff marks throughout the hall as well as in the galley and wardroom \n\n\n\nKitchen sort out – general clean and sort of all cupboards  \n\n\n\nPictures on walls in hall and wardroom \n\n\n\nNew blinds – to be put up in each window in the hall and wardroom  \n\n\n\nNew flag holder – wooden device needed to hold section flags \n\n\n\nToilets/Changing rooms – need general clean  \n\n\n\nJetty and Yard – general clean and sort of areas \n\n\n\n\nWe are looking to start around 10am and finish late afternoon. We will provide lunch and refreshments for all and are hoping this will be a fun day whilst doing some jobs.   \n\n\n\nIf you can help\, even just for an hour or two\, please email Jon with your availability. DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. SUMMARY:Christmas Carol Service & Toy Collection
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for families in need in the Southend area. All youth members and their families are very welcome\, along with the congregation of the Fishermen’s Chapel. The service starts at 11:00 (please arrive in good time and be seated before then). The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of Little Havens. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.
