Church Parade

Church_PennantThe Group holds a parade service on the third Sunday of most months, where we march through Old Leigh to The Fishermen’s Chapel (New Road Church) at the other end of the Old Town, which whom we have had a very long association.

In June and December we invite the congregation from New Road to The Den for the service, combining with our summer open day and Christmas toy & carol service.

We meet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform, and are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. All sections are welcome to attend, and it counts towards several challenge & activity badges.

Remembrance Day Parade

poppy-254x300Each year the Group represents the Scout Association at the Southend Cenotaph for the annual Service of Remembrance. All  Sea Scouts, Explorers and leaders are expected to attend this parade as one of the two annual events that all members are expected to attend.

Please meet at Cliff Town Parade, Southend, East of Prittlewell Square at 10:15. The service and parade will finish at approximately 1145 back at the start. Full uniform must be worn including poppy that should be worn above the bow on the cap tally band. It is generally cold so please make sure that you have a good hot breakfast before coming and that you wear a few layers under your uniform jumper. Coats and waterproof clothing will only be worn if it rains. Bring a coat with you and they can be left in Leader’s cars if not needed during the Parade. If possible, please make sure that your coat is black, navy or a dark colour, no bright colours.

This is an important day where we are in the public view and as the biggest Sea Scout Group in the county, we should make a good effort to attend and pay tribute to those who lost their lives for their Country during the two World Wars and other conflicts. A good smart turnout would be appreciated both by the Group and the Veterans who attend the Service.

Christmas Toy and Carol Service
Dec 12 @ 10:30 – 12:30

Our December Church Parade takes place in The Den, with families and the congregation from the Fisherman’s Chapel invited to join us. This is a toy & carol service at our usual time of 10.30 for an 11.00 start on Sunday 12th December.

Families and friends are very welcome to join us to sing some carols, and we will be delighted if you will join us afterwards for mince pies and coffee.

Toy Sunday Service 2014The toys received have gone for many years to the Marigold Centre which gives support to troubled families within Southend Borough. The centre can only accept new toys in their original wrappings (with instructions etc) and not gift wrapped.

For our youth members who are thinking of others at this time of year and wish to donate their own toys that they have either outgrown or don’t use (and maybe make space for their new Christmas presents), we will gladly also receive these, and pass them to  HARP – a local homeless project which we also support. Again, please leave these unwrapped to they can be given out appropriately.

Hopefully you will encourage your child to buy a new gift with their own pocket money to give some joy to a child less fortunate.
