Sessions are always supervised by a suitable leader\, and no experience is necessary. There is no charge for participating in open boating\, just ensure you are down in time for the start time above. \n\n\n\nYou will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat which you don’t mind getting wet (and you will get wet!). Footwear is required on the water – wet boots or old trainers are ideal\, flips flops and wellies are not appropriate. SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. DESCRIPTION:This year’s Renewal of Promise parade has been postponed to a later date\, as Strand Wharf has been double booked by Leigh Town Council with the Shanty Festival. Details of the rescheduled event will be published when we have confirmed them. Sorry for the late notice\, we only found out on Wednesday evening. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol for Curlews and Stingrays is still on (1030-1200)\, and there is Open Boating for Scouts/Explorers from 13:45. \n\n\n\nRenewing our Scouting promises to Do Our Best for the upcoming year\, and commemorating those Scouters that are not longer with us. This year we will be holding the service on Strand Wharf\, in the heart of Old Leigh. \n\n\n\nMeet in the small car park on New Road\, opposite the Fishermen’s Chapel (by the bridge into Old Leigh) at 10:30 in full uniform\, then march to Strand Wharf where we will gather to renew our promises together as a Group\, then march back to The Den to finish at around 12:00. \n\n\n\nAll Beavers\, Cubs\, Sea Scouts & Explorers are expected to attend\, in full uniform – this is one of the few events we ask all members to be there for. Parents & friends are very welcome to watch the parade and service. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to join us at The Den afterwards for tea & cake.

SUMMARY:Band Night
DESCRIPTION:One of the hottest social events of the summer: the 3rdCB Band Night\, back for its 4th year. \n\n\n\nWatch the sun go down with friends and family\, and dance the night away to some great entertainment\, including the awesome  Kryptonics and Bigger Yellow Suitcase live on stage. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have the famous Ten Green Bottles Cocktail Bar there to keep you hydrated\, and Porta Via Pizza cooking up fresh pizzas\, or feel free to bring your own drinks & nibbles. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds go towards supporting Scouting and activities for young people at 3rd Chalkwell Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and young people are welcome and encouraged to attend\, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adults are very welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks\, but please remember that under 18s are not permitted to consume alcohol on Scout premises. The Den is a no smoking site.

SUMMARY:Derbyshire
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Easter Walking and Activity Week to Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District will take place during the Easter holidays from 5 – 12 April\, open to all Scouts in Renown and Solebay Troops. \n\n\n\nWe have a varied programme including hill walking\, swimming and other activities such as cycling and low-level climbing\, as well as the opportunity to head into the local village and activities & games in the centre. We have exclusive use of the Rotary Centre in Castleton\, with several buildings including a purpose-build dormitory block with bunk bed accommodation in rooms of four and central heating. \n\n\n\nWalking groups are based on age and experience\, and are led by an experienced leader or instructor. For the older Scouts there will be the opportunity (weather permitting) to complete a two-day expedition challenge\, as part of the Chief Scout’s Award\, an experience that will leave some great memories. \n\n\n\nCost and How to Book\n\n\n\n\n\nThe week cost is £260\, which includes all transport\, activities\, accommodation\, and food and represents excellent value for money for a full week away. Numbers are limited to 36 Sea Scouts and will be allocated on a first come\, first served basis. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook your child’s place now at 3rdCB.org.uk/derbyshireBefore booking\, please check that your Scout wants to go and is available. \n\n\n\n\n\nA £50 non-refundable deposit is required on booking\, with the balance by 4 March. Invoices for the balance payment (if not paid in full when booking) will be sent out nearer the time through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nEquipment\n\n\n\nWalking boots (not DM’s) and decent waterproofs are essential for this trip\, and the Group has a number of good quality waterproofs and rucksacks that can be hired. There is a small hire charge of £5 per item to cover wear & tear and to help cover the cost of cleaning and replacing them. These borrowed items will be collected at the end of the week before we return home. \n\n\n\nPre-Trip Meeting\n\n\n\nWe hold a pre-trip meeting for parents and those going on the trip at The Den on Tuesday 4th March at 7.30pm. This will explain a bit more detail about clothing and kit requirements\, as well as the chance to discuss rooms. All those attending the trip should attend. Group equipment will be available to hire on this evening.

DESCRIPTION:We’ve been invited by Waitrose offering us the opportunity to help shoppers pack their bags and collect donations in their Leigh store\, on Sat 21st to Mon 23rd December\, between 11 and 4 each day. \n\n\n\nWe’ve done this previously at this time of year\, raising over £2000 each time. The funds raised for this are specifically to buy tents and equipment for the Explorer Unit\, who have relied on borrowing tents from younger sections or using personal ones until now – something we want to address as the Unit grows. \n\n\n\nExplorers and Scout PLs & APLs are invited to give a few of hours of their time on one or more days to assist in the bag packing and collecting. SUMMARY:Bag Packing Fundraising
DESCRIPTION:We’ve been invited by Waitrose offering us the opportunity to help shoppers pack their bags and collect donations in their Leigh store\, on Sat 21st to Mon 23rd December\, between 11 and 4 each day. \n\n\n\nWe’ve done this previously at this time of year\, raising over £2000 each time. The funds raised for this are specifically to buy tents and equipment for the Explorer Unit\, who have relied on borrowing tents from younger sections or using personal ones until now – something we want to address as the Unit grows. \n\n\n\nExplorers and Scout PLs & APLs are invited to give a few of hours of their time on one or more days to assist in the bag packing and collecting. SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. SUMMARY:Christmas Carol Service & Toy Collection
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for families in need in the Southend area. All youth members and their families are very welcome\, along with the congregation of the Fishermen’s Chapel. The service starts at 11:00 (please arrive in good time and be seated before then). The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of Little Havens. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.
