DESCRIPTION:This year’s Renewal of Promise parade has been postponed to a later date\, as Strand Wharf has been double booked by Leigh Town Council with the Shanty Festival. Details of the rescheduled event will be published when we have confirmed them. Sorry for the late notice\, we only found out on Wednesday evening. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol for Curlews and Stingrays is still on (1030-1200)\, and there is Open Boating for Scouts/Explorers from 13:45. \n\n\n\nRenewing our Scouting promises to Do Our Best for the upcoming year\, and commemorating those Scouters that are not longer with us. This year we will be holding the service on Strand Wharf\, in the heart of Old Leigh. \n\n\n\nMeet in the small car park on New Road\, opposite the Fishermen’s Chapel (by the bridge into Old Leigh) at 10:30 in full uniform\, then march to Strand Wharf where we will gather to renew our promises together as a Group\, then march back to The Den to finish at around 12:00. \n\n\n\nAll Beavers\, Cubs\, Sea Scouts & Explorers are expected to attend\, in full uniform – this is one of the few events we ask all members to be there for. Parents & friends are very welcome to watch the parade and service. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to join us at The Den afterwards for tea & cake.

DESCRIPTION:One of the hottest social events of the summer: the 3rdCB Band Night\, back for its 4th year. \n\n\n\nWatch the sun go down with friends and family\, and dance the night away to some great entertainment\, including the awesome  Kryptonics and Bigger Yellow Suitcase live on stage. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have the famous Ten Green Bottles Cocktail Bar there to keep you hydrated\, and Porta Via Pizza cooking up fresh pizzas\, or feel free to bring your own drinks & nibbles. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds go towards supporting Scouting and activities for young people at 3rd Chalkwell Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and young people are welcome and encouraged to attend\, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adults are very welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks\, but please remember that under 18s are not permitted to consume alcohol on Scout premises. The Den is a no smoking site.

SUMMARY:Derbyshire
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Easter Walking and Activity Week to Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District will take place during the Easter holidays from 5 – 12 April\, open to all Scouts in Renown and Solebay Troops. \n\n\n\nWe have a varied programme including hill walking\, swimming and other activities such as cycling and low-level climbing\, as well as the opportunity to head into the local village and activities & games in the centre. We have exclusive use of the Rotary Centre in Castleton\, with several buildings including a purpose-build dormitory block with bunk bed accommodation in rooms of four and central heating. \n\n\n\nWalking groups are based on age and experience\, and are led by an experienced leader or instructor. For the older Scouts there will be the opportunity (weather permitting) to complete a two-day expedition challenge\, as part of the Chief Scout’s Award\, an experience that will leave some great memories. \n\n\n\nCost and How to Book\n\n\n\n\n\nThe week cost is £260\, which includes all transport\, activities\, accommodation\, and food and represents excellent value for money for a full week away. Numbers are limited to 36 Sea Scouts and will be allocated on a first come\, first served basis. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook your child’s place now at 3rdCB.org.uk/derbyshireBefore booking\, please check that your Scout wants to go and is available. \n\n\n\n\n\nA £50 non-refundable deposit is required on booking\, with the balance by 4 March. Invoices for the balance payment (if not paid in full when booking) will be sent out nearer the time through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nEquipment\n\n\n\nWalking boots (not DM’s) and decent waterproofs are essential for this trip\, and the Group has a number of good quality waterproofs and rucksacks that can be hired. There is a small hire charge of £5 per item to cover wear & tear and to help cover the cost of cleaning and replacing them. These borrowed items will be collected at the end of the week before we return home. \n\n\n\nPre-Trip Meeting\n\n\n\nWe hold a pre-trip meeting for parents and those going on the trip at The Den on Tuesday 4th March at 7.30pm. This will explain a bit more detail about clothing and kit requirements\, as well as the chance to discuss rooms. All those attending the trip should attend. Group equipment will be available to hire on this evening.

DESCRIPTION:RYA Powerboat Level 1 / Power Cox’n Course for older Scouts\, to teach additional skills on the water beyond sailing. \n\n\n\nThis provides a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It covers boating techniques for everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. It is linked to the Scouts’ Power Cox’n badge. \n\n\n\nDuration: 1 day \n\n\n\nMinimum age: 12 \n\n\n\nCost: £20 (to cover the RYA logbook\, certificate and RIB boat fuel) \n\n\n\nMax on course: 6 \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: You will need to bring suitable clothing to go afloat in. It’s still March and cold out\, so jumpers and waterproofs\, plus boat shoes or trainers that can get wet\, a complete change of clothes\, and a towel! We will provide a buoyancy aid. \n\n\n\nYou will also need a packed lunch or money for chips! It is worth having a few snacks with you in-case we have a late lunch. \n\n\n\nAll courses are weather dependant\, and therefore may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. SUMMARY:Christmas Carol Service & Toy Collection
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for families in need in the Southend area. All youth members and their families are very welcome\, along with the congregation of the Fishermen’s Chapel. The service starts at 11:00 (please arrive in good time and be seated before then). The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of Little Havens. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:Each year the Group represents the Scouting and the youth of our city at Southend Cenotaph for the annual Service of Remembrance. All Sea Scouts and Explorers are expected to attend this service (one of only two events a year we place a greater emphasis on all members attending)\, to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. \n\n\n\nWhen: Sun 10 Nov – 10:15 to 12:00.Where: Clifftown Parade\, by Prittlewell Square Gardens (SS1 1DW).Wear: Full uniform\, with poppy. Dark coat only if raining.Who: All Sea Scouts (Renown & Solebay Troops) and Explorer Sea Scouts. \n\n\n\nWe will meet on Clifftown Parade\, Southend\, by Prittlewell Square Gardens and the Queen Victoria Statue at 10:15. The service and parade will finish at approximately 12:00 back at the start. Parents and friends are very welcome to watch the parade and service. \n\n\n\nFull uniform is to be worn\, including a poppy that should be worn above the bow on the cap tally band (or on the left breast if you don’t yet have a cap). It is generally cold so please make sure that you have a good hot breakfast before coming and that you wear a few layers under your uniform jumper. Coats will only be worn if it rains. Those members with long hair should wear it fastened up in a bun with a hair net. If you are concerned about the weather\, bring a coat with you as they can be left in a leader’s car if not needed during the parade. If possible\, please make sure that your coat is black\, navy or a dark colour\, not bright colours. \n\n\n\nThis is an important day where we are in the public view and as the largest Sea Scout Groups in the county it is right that we make a good effort to attend and pay tribute to those who lost their lives for their Country during the two World Wars and other conflicts. If you cannot make it\, please let your section leader know. A good smart turnout would be appreciated both by me and the Veterans who attend the Service.

SUMMARY:Poppy Appeal Collecting
DESCRIPTION:The Scouts and Explorers will be selling poppies and collecting money for the Royal British Legion on Leigh Broadway\, in the run up to Remembrance Day. \n\n\n\nWe need 2-3 Scouts or Explorers for 1-2 hr slots between 10.00 and 5.00 in uniform. If you can spare an hour or two to support this very worthwhile effort\, please contact Chris to arrange a time slot. \n\n\n\nIf you’re along the Broadway during the day please stop and say hi! \n\n\n\nWhen: Sat 2 Nov – 10:00 to 17:00.Where: Leigh BroadwayWear: Full uniform\, with poppy. SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. SUMMARY:Harvest Church Parade
DESCRIPTION:Parade Service to New Road Fishermen’s Chapel in Old Leigh\, celebrating and giving thanks for the Harvest. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo celebrate the harvest\, for October’s Church Parade we’ll be collecting donations of tinned\, dried and long-life food\, snacks and toiletries\, which will be donated through our friends at HARP Southend to our city’s less fortunate residents. If you can\, please bring a donation of one of the items above\, either on the day or beforehand on your usual meeting night\, which will be donated to HARP to support their fantastic work. \n\n\n\nWe parade through the Old Town with colours flying to the chapel\, returning to The Den on completion. We are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. All sections are welcome to attend\, and it counts towards several challenge & activity badges.
