SUMMARY:Saturday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:Please note July’s Duty Patrol (Seals and Turtles) has moved to Saturday 19 July to align with summer camp preps\, and will start slightly later at 11:00. \n\n\n\nWe all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSaturday Sunday Duty Patrol starts at 11:00 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.   \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. Please let your PL/DL and section leader know if you can’t attend. \n\n\n\n2025 Rota\n\n\n\nMonthDatePatrolsDuty OfficerJanuary26*Penguins and Dolphins (*week later than usual)RenownFebruary16Seagulls and SharksSolebayMarch16Explorer UnitEndeavourApril27*Gannets and Otters (*week later than usual)RenownMay18Curlews and StingraysSolebayJune15DauntlessDauntlessJuly19 20Seals and TurtlesRenownAugust–No Duty Patrol–September21Merlins and PiranhasSolebayOctober19Explorer UnitExplorersNovember16Puffins and BeaversRenownDecember14*Stormy Petts and Whales (*week earlier than usual)Solebay

SUMMARY:Ray Day
DESCRIPTION:A fun full day on the water for Scouts and Explorers. For those that haven’t done one before\, we sail out from The Den on the ebbing tide\, moor up in the Ray channel off Westcliff\, wait for the tide to go out\, play on the sand bank\, sail\, swim\, eat\, then come home as the tide floods. \n\n\n\nSome sailing experience is needed\, but we do have some space for novices too. \n\n\n\nYou will need plenty of water / drinks\, and food for lunch/snacks. Sun cream and a hat are a must. \n\n\n\nIt’s a long day\, but great fun. A good chance to practice sailing and build confidence. For the more experienced sailors we’ll bring some spinnakers and a trapeze harness to play with. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den 8am\, we need to be on the water and left by 9 so don’t be late. Back around 7.30. \n\n\n\nAs with all water activities\, this is weather dependent.

SUMMARY:Open Day
DESCRIPTION:After having to review our Group Open Day on Saturday we have unfortunately had to cancel the event. We hope to run it again in the future when adult support is more forthcoming. Instead the day will now be open boating for Scouts and Explorers. \n\n\n\nOur annual Open Day at The Den. All youth members\, along with their families and friends are invited to get together at The Den\, get out on the water and try your hand in sailing\, see our fantastic facilities\, and have a BBQ in the sun. \n\n\n\nYou’ll also have the opportunity to socialise and meet the leaders and other parents\, and even take a dip in the creek to cool off if you wish. \n\n\n\nDon’t forget your swimming gear if you want to go on the water or even take a dip in the creek to cool off.

SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in. Please let your PL/DL and section leader know if you can’t attend. \n\n\n\n2025 Rota\n\n\n\nMonthDatePatrolsDuty OfficerJanuary26*Penguins and Dolphins (*week later than usual)RenownFebruary16Seagulls and SharksSolebayMarch16Explorer UnitEndeavourApril27*Gannets and Otters (*week later than usual)RenownMay18Curlews and StingraysSolebayJune15DauntlessDauntlessJuly20Seals and TurtlesRenownAugust–No Duty Patrol–September21Merlins and PiranhasSolebayOctober19Explorer UnitExplorersNovember16Puffins and BeaversRenownDecember14*Stormy Petts and Whales (*week earlier than usual)Solebay

SUMMARY:New Year's Eve Sail
DESCRIPTION:Blow away the festive period cobwebs and get afloat in Old Leigh for the final sail of 2024. \n\n\n\nTraditionally we’d go for a sail on Boxing Day (historically the Scouts took Christmas dinner out to the lighthouse keeper at Canvey Point)\, but the tide was far too early this year\, so we’re going to hold the last boating session of the year on New Years Eve instead. \n\n\n\nOpen to Scouts and Explorers. Parents and family are of course welcome in The Den to watch and share some tea or coffee. \n\n\n\nAs always\, the event is weather dependant. \n\n\n\nHW 1245 (5.5m)
