SUMMARY:Sunday Duty Patrol
DESCRIPTION:We all have a responsibility to keep The Den clean & tidy\, and to ensure that the boats are bailed regularly\, particularly during the winter months. On the third Sunday of each month the Scouts and Explorers take it in turns (by Patrol / Division) to be the Sunday Duty Patrol and keep our HQ and equipment running properly. Please make a note of the day your patrol is on duty – it is only once a year and makes a big difference in keeping our HQ running well. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol starts at 10:30 and lasts for about 1½ hours.  Where there is a Church Parade on the same day\, duty patrol will start on completion. \n\n\n\nWear old clothes that you can clean in.
Please let your PL/DL and section leader know if you can’t attend. \n\n\n\n2026 Rota\n\n\n\nMonthDatePatrolsDuty OfficerJanuary25*Penguins and Dolphins (*week later than usual)RenownFebruary15Seagulls and SharksSolebayMarch15Explorer UnitEndeavourApril19Gannets and OttersRenownMay17Curlews and StingraysSolebayJune21DauntlessDauntlessJuly19Seals and TurtlesRenownAugust–No Duty Patrol–September20Merlins and PiranhasSolebayOctober18Explorer UnitExplorersNovember15Puffins and BeaversRenownDecember13*Stormy Petts and Whales (*week earlier than usual)Solebay

SUMMARY:Explorer Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Explorer Summer Camp 2026 will be in Cornwall\, camping near Lansallos on Cornwall’s beautiful south coast\, just a stones throw from the beach. \n\n\n\nIt’s a green field camp – back to basics\, with no facilities. The Explorers will camp in tents and cook for themselves on open fires. There will be a fun packed program for the week focussing on team building and lots of adventure. The site is only 4min walk from a secluded beach so we’ll be making great use of that too. \n\n\n\nThe price of this camp is £280\, which will include everything needed for the week. A £55 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your Explorer’s place. The balance will be paid in instalments of £75 in May\, June and July through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nPlanned activities include surfing lessons or coasteering\, as well as games and lots of activities throughout the week\, on and off the site. As always there’ll be an opportunity to head into the local town and a trip to Newquay so some spending money will be required. \n\n\n\nDue to the location of the camp and logistics of getting there numbers are limited to 33 Explorers\, available on a first come first serve basis. If you miss out on a space please use the waiting list so we can gauge interest. \n\n\n\nWe will depart the den at 0500 on the Friday 24 Jul and return the following Saturday 1 Aug by around 1600. The early departure time comes with a view of taking our time getting there and hopefully beating some traffic. \n\n\n\nA full kit list\, medical form\, and more details will be circulated nearer the time.

SUMMARY:EYC Cadet Week
DESCRIPTION:3rdCB are invited to enter Scouts/Explorers who aren’t already members of Essex Yacht Club to the Club’s annual Cadet Week – a week of racing\, fun & games\, and social activities based at EYC’s HQ “Wilton”\, and may borrow sailing dinghies from The Den to enter (single or double handed). It’s a really fun week both on and off the water\, and the sailing experience of Scouts who’ve entered previously has increased immeasurably. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this is not a Scouting activity\, one parent is required to be present at the Yacht Club during the day to help out with the event and be responsible for their child. Prior sailing experience is required for the use of 3rdCB boats: to the standard of RYA Stage 2 – the ability to rig\, launch & sail unsupervised is the minimum expectation\, but please talk to the the sailing instructors about it beforehand if in doubt. We’re not able to provide tuition during the week. \n\n\n\n3rdCB will be assisting with safety boat cover. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA separate cadet week registration form will be sent to be completed for EYC to confirm attendance once you’ve been accepted to borrow a boat.
