SUMMARY:Christmas Carol Service & Toy Collection
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for families in need in the Southend area. All youth members and their families are very welcome\, along with the congregation of the Fishermen’s Chapel. The service starts at 11:00 (please arrive in good time and be seated before then). The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of Little Havens. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

SUMMARY:Cubs HARP Sleepout
DESCRIPTION:Cubs sleep out at The Den to learn out rough sleeping\, and how HARP helps those in need in our community. \n\n\n\n\nWe are offering the Cubs an opportunity to experience sleeping out in cardboard boxes at The Den whilst raising money for HARP the Homeless Charity. \n\n\n\nWe ask that everyone has had dinner before arriving at 8pm on Friday evening. We will provide supper before they finally go to bed and they will also be fed breakfast before being collected at 9am the following morning. \n\n\n\nCubs will need to wear warm clothing including a coat\, wooly hat and their Cub scarf! They must also bring the following: \n\n\n\n\nSleeping Bag\n\n\n\nPillow\n\n\n\nWarm Blanket\n\n\n\nLarge bin bag\n\n\n\nPlenty of card board to make a bed a cover!\n\n\n\n\nThere is no need for plates\, cutlery or wash kits\, but please send Cubs clean and then they can look forward to a warm shower when they get home first thing in the morning! \n\n\n\nThis event will be free of charge as the main emphasis is for the Cubs to obtain sponsor for HARP.  \n\n\n\n Download the sponsorship form. \n\n\n\nIf you wish to attend\, please sign up through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nIf we get poor weather we will have the option to go in The Den Hall.

DESCRIPTION:The opportunity for our younger members to get out on the water for a day’s sailing. \n\n\n\nBeavers & Cubs will need a spare change of clothes\, towel & something warm to wear afterwards\, plus boat shoes or old trainers that can get wet (not flip flops). We have a few wetsuits that can be borrowed but a limited number of sizes. DESCRIPTION:One of the hottest social events of the summer: the 3rdCB Band Night.  \n\n\n\nCelebrate the start of summer in Old Leigh\, and watch the sun go down to some great entertainment\, including the fabulous XStatic live on stage. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have a food wagon serving snacks\, as well as a bar serving cocktails and soft drinks. Or feel free to bring your own drinks & nibbles. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds go towards supporting Scouting and activities for young people at 3rd Chalkwell Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and young people are welcome and encouraged to attend\, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adults are very welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks\, but please remember that under 18s are not permitted to consume alcohol on Scout premises. The Den is a no smoking site.

SUMMARY:District Activity Day
DESCRIPTION:Activities day at Belchamps on Sat 27 Apr for Beavers\, Cubs and Scouts from across Southend West Scout District. A huge variety of adventurous activities and games available\, culminating with a big camp fire. There are a huge number of activities on offer\, with the attached map highlighting a few of them and where they’ll be on site\, all finishing off with a big camp fire where we’ll renew our Scouting Promises for the year ahead. \n\n\n\nWe’ve received the final details from the organising team to share with you\, including an update on times. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday 27 April. 0900 – 2100 (note revised times). If you need to arrive late or leave early\, please talk to your child’s leader in advance. \n\n\n\nThere will be a lot of other scouts from all over Southend arriving on Saturday morning (including over 100 from 3rdCB alone) so timings have been staggered to ease the traffic. If you can share lifts please do. The drop off and pick up area is the overflow car park by the front gate\, and exiting at the bottom of the site via Hawkwell Chase. \n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive as close to 0900 as possible.\n\n\n\nWe will finish after the camp fire for a pick up at 2100.\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Belchamps Scout Activity Centre. (SS5 4JD. Maps Link)\, 3rdCB will be based in the PHC building just by the front entrance (look for our scarf on the attached map)\, and bags can be left in there. \n\n\n\nCost: Free! \n\n\n\nWear: 3rdCB polo / tshirt and scarf. Activity trousers (or shorts if it’s warm) and trainers. Bring a jumper (3rdCB hoodie ideal if you have one) and waterproof jacket. \n\n\n\nBring: \n\n\n\n\nPacked lunch and water bottle (both named). Any medicines needed during the day (asthma pump\, epipen etc; please inform leaders if it’s anything we’re not already aware of).\n\n\n\nTowel and change of clothes (there’s a water slide if they’re feeling brave!)\n\n\n\nSmall amount of spending money for the shop (optional)\n\n\n\n\nFood: \n\n\n\n\nAttendees will need a named packed lunch with them\, including some snacks for during the day and a full water bottle. There is no other lunch available!\n\n\n\nNo Nuts – Please don’t send any products containing nuts as we have several young people with severe allergies.\n\n\n\nWe’ll provide a light dinner before the camp fire in the evening. Please make sure any dietary requirements are correct in the Parent Portal.\n\n\n\n\nPermission to shoot form: Activities on offer include air rifle and crossbow shooting\, great activities but these require specific parental permission (under Sect 21 of the Firearms Act 1968). If your child would like to take part in these activities please can you print\, fill in and sign the permission form (available in the Parent Portal) for them to bring with them (it will be exchanged for a wristband on the day). Without this form they will not be allowed to take part in shooting activities (the leaders can’t sign on your behalf). \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, please speak to your child’s leaders in the first instance.

SUMMARY:Cub Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:One of the highlights of the Cubs’ calendar – our summer camp this year will be held from Saturday 22nd July to Thursday 27th July. We will be camping with the Beavers at an old 3rdCB favourite of Haughly Park in Suffolk. The Scout Troops will be on the same site\, but a bit further away from us this year. \n\n\n\nThe focus of the camp is back to basics: the Cubs camp together in tents for the week\, eating together in a central mess tent. There’s a packed programme of activities and games throughout the week\, including a cooking over fires\, and a big camp fire for the whole Group on the final night. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the week will be £150 which covers everything\, including food\, coach travel\, site hire\, activities etc. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBooking is via the OSM Parent Portal\, in the same way that membership fees are paid. DESCRIPTION:One of the hottest social events of the summer: the 3rdCB Band Night.  \n\n\n\nCelebrate the start of summer in Old Leigh\, and watch the sun go down to some great entertainment\, including the fabulous Big Yellow Suitcase live on stage. \n\n\n\nOn site bar available including great cocktails and soft drinks\, or bring your own drinks & snacks for the evening. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds go towards supporting Scouting and activities for young people at 3rd Chalkwell Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and young people are welcome and encouraged to attend\, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adults are very welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks\, but please remember that under 18s are not permitted to consume alcohol on Scout premises. The Den is a no smoking site.

DESCRIPTION:Parade Service to New Road Fishermen’s Chapel in Old Leigh. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform. \n\n\n\nWe parade through the Old Town with colours flying to the chapel\, returning to The Den on completion. We are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. DESCRIPTION:Our annual chance to celebrate the achievements of our youth members over the past year at the Group’s Presentation Evening. \n\n\n\nThis year’s event will be back at Leigh Road Baptist Church\, the doors are open from 1830 for a 1900 start.  All members of the Group and their parents/family are invited to attend (full uniform for members please). \n\n\n\nDuring the evening awards will be presented to the Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts and Explorers for their achievements throughout the year. The sections will also be providing displays on their activities throughout the year. \n\n\n\nAfter the presentations there will be a selection of refreshments\, to give you the opportunity to look at the displays & photos and see what we’ve been up to over the past year\, as well as to meet the leader team & other parents.

SUMMARY:Christmas Toy & Carol Service
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for troubled and needy families in the Southend area. \nWe’re again collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of the Marigold Centre. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. \nThe obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.
