SUMMARY:Christmas Toy & Carol Service
DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for troubled and needy families in the Southend area. \nWe’re again collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of the Marigold Centre. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. \nThe obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

DESCRIPTION:We’re holding a fundraising dinner at The Tandoori Parlour in Benfleet\, raising funds to support the Scouts going to the World Scout Jamboree In Korea\, and International Expedition to North America this summer. \n\n\n\nThe price is £15 for adults and children 12 & over\, or £12 for children under 12\, open to all families and friends of 3rdCB. This includes a set mixed starter\, followed by an unlimited buffet. So don’t delay\, and book in for a fun and sociable night using the button below. \n\n\n\nWe’ll be running a few games and fundraising activities during the evening as well\, including a raffle\, 100 square and heads & tails game\, so please bring some cash with you.

DESCRIPTION:One of the hottest social events of the summer: the 3rdCB Band Night.  \n\n\n\nCelebrate the start of summer in Old Leigh\, and watch the sun go down to some great entertainment\, including the fabulous Big Yellow Suitcase live on stage. \n\n\n\nOn site bar available including great cocktails and soft drinks\, or bring your own drinks & snacks for the evening. \n\n\n\nAll proceeds go towards supporting Scouting and activities for young people at 3rd Chalkwell Bay. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and young people are welcome and encouraged to attend\, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adults are very welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks\, but please remember that under 18s are not permitted to consume alcohol on Scout premises. The Den is a no smoking site.

SUMMARY:Cub Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:One of the highlights of the Cubs’ calendar – our summer camp this year will be held from Saturday 22nd July to Thursday 27th July. We will be camping with the Beavers at an old 3rdCB favourite of Haughly Park in Suffolk. The Scout Troops will be on the same site\, but a bit further away from us this year. \n\n\n\nThe focus of the camp is back to basics: the Cubs camp together in tents for the week\, eating together in a central mess tent. There’s a packed programme of activities and games throughout the week\, including a cooking over fires\, and a big camp fire for the whole Group on the final night. \n\n\n\nCost \n\n\n\nThe cost of the week will be £150 which covers everything\, including food\, coach travel\, site hire\, activities etc. \n\n\n\nHow to book \n\n\n\nBooking is via the OSM Parent Portal\, in the same way that membership fees are paid. To help parents budget\, this year we’re asking for payments in three instalments of £50 each at the beginning of May\, June and July\, the first of which is a non-refundable deposit.  \n\n\n\nPlaces are limited to 28 Cubs.

SUMMARY:District Activity Day
DESCRIPTION:Activities day at Belchamps on Sat 27 Apr for Beavers\, Cubs and Scouts from across Southend West Scout District. A huge variety of adventurous activities and games available\, culminating with a big camp fire. There are a huge number of activities on offer\, with the attached map highlighting a few of them and where they’ll be on site\, all finishing off with a big camp fire where we’ll renew our Scouting Promises for the year ahead. \n\n\n\nWe’ve received the final details from the organising team to share with you\, including an update on times. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday 27 April. 0900 – 2100 (note revised times). If you need to arrive late or leave early\, please talk to your child’s leader in advance. \n\n\n\nThere will be a lot of other scouts from all over Southend arriving on Saturday morning (including over 100 from 3rdCB alone) so timings have been staggered to ease the traffic. If you can share lifts please do. The drop off and pick up area is the overflow car park by the front gate\, and exiting at the bottom of the site via Hawkwell Chase. \n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive as close to 0900 as possible.\n\n\n\nWe will finish after the camp fire for a pick up at 2100.\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Belchamps Scout Activity Centre. (SS5 4JD. Maps Link)\, 3rdCB will be based in the PHC building just by the front entrance (look for our scarf on the attached map)\, and bags can be left in there. \n\n\n\nCost: Free! \n\n\n\nWear: 3rdCB polo / tshirt and scarf. Activity trousers (or shorts if it’s warm) and trainers. Bring a jumper (3rdCB hoodie ideal if you have one) and waterproof jacket. \n\n\n\nBring: \n\n\n\n\nPacked lunch and water bottle (both named). Any medicines needed during the day (asthma pump\, epipen etc; please inform leaders if it’s anything we’re not already aware of).\n\n\n\nTowel and change of clothes (there’s a water slide if they’re feeling brave!)\n\n\n\nSmall amount of spending money for the shop (optional)\n\n\n\n\nFood: \n\n\n\n\nAttendees will need a named packed lunch with them\, including some snacks for during the day and a full water bottle. DESCRIPTION:Cubs sleep out at The Den to learn out rough sleeping\, and how HARP helps those in need in our community. \n\n\n\n\nWe are offering the Cubs an opportunity to experience sleeping out in cardboard boxes at The Den whilst raising money for HARP the Homeless Charity. \n\n\n\nWe ask that everyone has had dinner before arriving at 8pm on Friday evening. We will provide supper before they finally go to bed and they will also be fed breakfast before being collected at 9am the following morning. \n\n\n\nCubs will need to wear warm clothing including a coat\, wooly hat and their Cub scarf! They must also bring the following: \n\n\n\n\nSleeping Bag\n\n\n\nPillow\n\n\n\nWarm Blanket\n\n\n\nLarge bin bag\n\n\n\nPlenty of card board to make a bed a cover!\n\n\n\n\nThere is no need for plates\, cutlery or wash kits\, but please send Cubs clean and then they can look forward to a warm shower when they get home first thing in the morning! \n\n\n\nThis event will be free of charge as the main emphasis is for the Cubs to obtain sponsor for HARP.  \n\n\n\n Download the sponsorship form. \n\n\n\nIf you wish to attend\, please sign up through the Parent Portal. \n\n\n\nIf we get poor weather we will have the option to go in The Den Hall.

DESCRIPTION:Each Christmas we host a carol service at The Den with New Road Fishermen’s Chapel\, and collect toys for families in need in the Southend area. All youth members and their families are very welcome\, along with the congregation of the Fishermen’s Chapel. The service starts at 11:00 (please arrive in good time and be seated before then). The obligatory mince pies and refreshments will be served after the Service. \n\n\n\nWe will be collecting toys for those less fortunate on behalf of Little Havens. We ask for donations of gifts of toys and children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown\, all unwrapped please. These can be brought down on the morning\, or in advance to your child’s normal meeting night. \n\n\n\nWe usually get a full house and have had enormous selections of gifts donated in the past\, please make the same excellent effort this year too and as always\, your contribution is much appreciated. \n\n\n\nAfter the service there is Sunday Duty Patrol for Stormy Petts and Whales.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s Renewal of Promise parade has been postponed to a later date\, as Strand Wharf has been double booked by Leigh Town Council with the Shanty Festival. Details of the rescheduled event will be published when we have confirmed them. Sorry for the late notice\, we only found out on Wednesday evening. \n\n\n\nSunday Duty Patrol for Curlews and Stingrays is still on (1030-1200)\, and there is Open Boating for Scouts/Explorers from 13:45. \n\n\n\nRenewing our Scouting promises to Do Our Best for the upcoming year\, and commemorating those Scouters that are not longer with us. This year we will be holding the service on Strand Wharf\, in the heart of Old Leigh. \n\n\n\nMeet in the small car park on New Road\, opposite the Fishermen’s Chapel (by the bridge into Old Leigh) at 10:30 in full uniform\, then march to Strand Wharf where we will gather to renew our promises together as a Group\, then march back to The Den to finish at around 12:00. \n\n\n\nAll Beavers\, Cubs\, Sea Scouts & Explorers are expected to attend\, in full uniform – this is one of the few events we ask all members to be there for. DESCRIPTION:A weekend of family fun across Old Leigh hosted by 3rd Chalkwell Bay and 4th / 6th Leigh Sea Scouts\, and we need your help to make it a fantastic weekend. \n\n\n\nIn addition to the traditional sailing races\, welly-hoying\, tug-o-war and cockle eating competitions\, there will be scores of local community stalls\, games\, live music\, entertainment and activities for all the family. \n\n\n\nFor those that haven’t been to Leigh Regatta before\, it’s a weekend long family street festival in the Old Town\, organised by the Old Leigh Sea Scout Groups (3rdCB and 4th/6th Leigh). The road is closed and filled with stalls\, games\, entertainment\, live music\, sailing and competitions between the Sea Scout Groups. Traditionally it has been one of our biggest fundraising events of the year and a huge amount of fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe need help from Scouts\, Explorers\, parents\, family and supporters over the weekend to run stalls\, games\, help set up\, and take part in the competitions on and off the water\, please sign up for a few slots through the link below: \n\n\n\nhttps://signup.com/go/gkaqHQX \n\n\n\n\nHelp on both days from about 9am till 5pm (Regatta opens 11am\, stalls finish about 5pm\, but the music carries on into Saturday evening until 9.30)\n\n\n\nSetting up and taking down of stalls\n\n\n\nRunning the 3rdCB game stalls (Bat the Rat\, Hook a Duck\, Darts in Envelopes)\n\n\n\nHelping in the Tea Tent\n\n\n\nTaking part in competitions with 4th/6th Leigh – tug o war\, bowsprit pillow fights\, dinghy races and sailing races.\n\n\n\n\nCubs and Beavers are really welcome to come and help out as well with their parents\, and take part in the many activities on offer.  \n\n\n\n3rd CB receiving a portion of the profits from the weekend which helps with running costs for the Group. DESCRIPTION:Parade Service to New Road Fishermen’s Chapel in Old Leigh\, celebrating and giving thanks for the Harvest. \n\n\n\nMeet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo celebrate the harvest\, for October’s Church Parade we’ll be collecting donations of tinned\, dried and long-life food\, snacks and toiletries\, which will be donated through our friends at HARP Southend to our city’s less fortunate residents. If you can\, please bring a donation of one of the items above\, either on the day or beforehand on your usual meeting night\, which will be donated to HARP to support their fantastic work. \n\n\n\nWe parade through the Old Town with colours flying to the chapel\, returning to The Den on completion. We are normally finished by 12:15. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the chapel for the service. All sections are welcome to attend\, and it counts towards several challenge & activity badges.

DESCRIPTION:We’re holding a Christmas Carol Service on Strand Wharf on Saturday at 4.00pm\, with our friends from New Road Fishermen’s Chapel. A more community-focussed event than our usual service in The Den with more space and everyone welcome\, to get you all in that festive mood. \n\n\n\nMembers\, parents\, friends\, and family are warmly encouraged to join us for festive carol singing and refreshments. Uniform is not required but please wear your 3rdCB scarf; just bring your voices and Christmas spirit! \n\n\n\nWe’ll again be collecting toys & gifts for Little Havens\, and the children in our city who need a little more hope at this time of year. We ask for donations of toys or children’s books\, these can be new\, as new\, unwanted gifts or something out-grown. Unwrapped please to help the Little Havens team give them out appropriately. These can either be brought on the day\, or to your normal section meeting during the week. \n\n\n\n⏰ When: 4.00pm on Sat 6 Dec📍 Where: Strand Wharf\, Old Leigh👕 Wear: Not uniform and wrap up warm as it’s outside. DESCRIPTION:Our annual chance to celebrate the achievements of our youth members over the past year at the Group’s Presentation Evening. \n\n\n\nThis year’s event will be back at Leigh Road Baptist Church\, the doors are open from 1830 for a 1900 start.  All members of the Group and their parents/family are invited to attend (full uniform for members please). \n\n\n\nDuring the evening awards will be presented to the Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts and Explorers for their achievements throughout the year.  \n\n\n\nAfter the presentations there will be a selection of refreshments available\, and the opportunity to chat with the leader team & other parents about our adventures over the past year\, and plans for 2026.
