#ThisGirlCan Sailing and Skills Building

Open sailing session and skills building session for Female Scouts and Explorers at The Den.

This is part of our This Girl Can initiative to encourage more girls to participate in water activities, and as such is only open to female Scouts and Explorers.

Session for female Scouts or Explorer to go on the water rowing and sailing. Sessions are always supervised by a suitable leader, and no experience is necessary. There is no charge for participating in open boating, just ensure you are down in time for the briefing as outlined on the programme and email with more details when you have booked onto the session. Please make sure you bring suitable clothing as outlined below.

All dinghy helms need to have completed the RYA Stage 2 Sailing Course (or be of equivalent experience). This is to ensure you are reasonably competent in a boat, to minimise the amount of close proximity contact you may require from the leader team.

Due to the rules on distancing, those from different households will not be able to sail in the same boat for now. We will therefore mostly be offering individual places on our single-handed boats; the Topazes.

Those from the same household will however be asked to sail together in a Quest to maximise the amount of boats we have available for all. Unfortunately we’re not currently able to accommodate non-family members sailing together.

If after booking you are unable to attend, please cancel the booking or contact boating@3rdcb.org.uk so we can ensure the limited places are offered to other members.

EYC Cadet Week
Aug 8 – Aug 12 all-day
EYC Cadet Week @ Essex Yacht Club

Essex Yacht Club Cadet Week 2021.

3rdCB are invited to enter Scouts/Explorers into their annual Cadet Week – a week of racing, fun & games, and social activities based at EYC’s HQ “Wilton”. Members may borrow dinghies from The Den to enter (single or double handed). It’s a really fun week both on and off the water, and the sailing experience of Scouts who’ve entered previously has increased immeasurably.

Official bits – Please note that this is not a Scouting activity, one parent is expected to be present at the Yacht Club during the day to help out with the event and be responsible for their child. Prior sailing experience is required for the use of 3rdCB boats – RYA Stage 2 and experience sailing Topazes is generally the minimum standard, but please talk to the the sailing instructors about it beforehand. We’re not able to provide tuition during the week.

Email Boating@3rdCB.org.uk, or see Chris Grover or Chris Daly for details.

3rdCB will assist with safety boat cover.
