3rd Chalkwell Bay is a recognized provider of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
We are currently making plans for our 2022 programmes and would like to invite youth members over the age of 13½ (in school year 9) to participate.

We will be holding a parents information evening on Tuesday 2nd November, 19:30 at the Den for any prospective parents / participants who wish for more information about how we run the scheme and what’s required. Please drop a quick email to if you intend to attend so we can ensure we have enough chairs/literature.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Overview

There are three progressive DofE levels which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold award. The participants will create their own DofE programme by choosing volunteering, physical and skills activities, also going on an expedition. These awards are challenging and they will have to show commitment, attend expedition training sessions as well as a practice expedition and the assessed expedition. These will be held at weekends or School holidays.

  • Bronze – two days / 1 night – 14 years old (13 ½ if in year 9 – linking with Explorers)
  • Silver – three days / 2 nights – 15 years old (if they have completed Bronze they can start at 14)
  • Gold – four days / 3 nights – 16 years old (No flexibility on age)

We will be able to provide guidance for all the sections of the award scheme and once signed up they will receive a book / information as well as an online login so they can record and evidence their achievements.

The Group has equipment that can be borrowed for the expedition.

If your child has previously signed up to the DofE Scheme via another provider (ie. School) we can transfer them over to 3rd Chalkwell Bay.

The awards are great fun to do, provide your child with an opportunity to enhance their personal development and are a nationally recognised qualification.
