Lost Property

Over the past year we’ve gathered a fair bit of lost properly at The Den, including lots of coats left in the lobby for a considerable time. This Sunday after Church Parade we will be laying it all out for you to take a look for any misplaced items you may have left at The Den; please take a look and reclaim it. Any items not collected by Sunday will be donated to a local charity shop.

Remembrance Sunday Parade – 9th November 2014

poppy-254x300Each year the Group represents the Scout Association at the Southend Cenotaph for the annual Service of Remembrance. All Leaders, Sea Scouts, Sea Rangers and Explorers are expected to attend this parade, please note that this is one of the three compulsory events that all members must attend when agreeing to become a member of 3rd CB. Those not attending are to give their reason in writing to their Section Leader before the 9th November.

Please meet at Cliff Town Parade, Southend, East of Prittlewell Square by 1000 sharp. The service and parade will finish at 1200 back at the start.

Bag Packing Fundraising Event – 15/16 November

2014-morrisonsOn Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th November 2014 the Group will be taking part in a fundraising event at Morrisons, London Road, Hadleigh. The idea is for members to be at the checkouts offering to pack customers shopping for a small donation to the Group.

Although the Group haven’t done this kind of fundraising before, other Scouts & charities have done, and raised over £500. Subs only cover about 1/3 of the Group’s running costs so events like this are really important for us to sustain the activities and equipment we provide. Harvest Festival Church Parade – 19th October 2014

Harvest Festival Church Parade at New Road Methodist Church. Meet at The Den at 10:30 in full uniform with an item of food (tinned or non perishable i.e. pasta please) to donate to HARP, a charity for homeless people in the Southend area.

We will parade from The Den to New Road Church. Parents are welcome to join us for the service. We will be finished at The Den at 12:30.

Guzzler AGM & Pub Night – 7th October 2014

The Guzzlers 2014 AGM will be on Tuesday 7th October 2014 at 2000, which I am pleased to say will be at The Den where we will be more comfortable than squeezed into a pub. This will be followed by a Pub Night at The Smack on completion. Any current or ex 3rd CB members who would like to join the Guzzler’s are welcome to come along and join!
Please put the date in your diaries and if there any items for inclusion in the agenda or revision of Aims do advise Stuart before the end of September.

Royal Navy Inspection – Saturday 11th October 2014

The Group is to have its RN Inspection on Saturday 11th October at The Den in the Royal Navyafternoon. Full timings are here:

This inspection is very important to the Group and is compulsory for all group members to attend, all members must attend in full uniform. The inspection comes round every 18 months and we are inspected by the Royal Navy Staff Officer Sea Scouts (a Lieutenant Commander) to check that our standards are high enough and details of members and numbers attending on the day are recorded in the report which goes to the Royal Navy. Completing this inspection and passing it is an extreme honour and shows the hard work which is put in by all members of the Group.

Regatta Help and Prizes

Punch & Judy at Old Leigh RegattaAs you most likely will be aware, this year’s Old Leigh Regatta this year is running slightly different to normal, and we need your help to get the most out of the day. The Leigh Lions are now overseeing the event, with 3rdCB are involved in helping and running a few of our own stalls including the Tea Tent. We have tried to keep as many of the traditional favourites in the Regatta as possible, such as the Coconut Shy, Crazy Kitchen, Cub’s Welly Hoying, Tug of War, the Scout Pentathlon (between ourselves and 4th/6th Leigh) and the Tea Tent selling cakes, rolls, tea and coffee, as well as the Sea Rangers and Sea Scouts distributing programmes and tin collecting as usual. It will all run only on the Sunday 14 September instead of the whole weekend.

As you can imagine we will need help with many of the above events but the main ones are:

  • Adults to help man the traffic barriers at the fly-over
  • Adults and older children to help in the Tea Tent
  • Adults and children to help run the stalls – Crazy Kitchen, Coconut Shy, Hook-a-duck, Face Painting
  • General help to get stalls and the Tea Tent set up and dismantled at the end of the day
