2013 Renewal of Promise & St. George’s Day Parade is taking place this Sunday 21st April, an email was sent out a week ago as a reminder and was also included in most of your section programmes as a date to remember and add to your diary.
Renewal of Promise is a big part of the scouting calendar, this is where all section members including the Sea Rangers renewal their Scout and Ranger promise each year along with all the other Scout Groups from the Southend West District. Our BIG project was launched Saturday, all those that attended had a good time, thanks to Beth for thinking of wine tasting as an idea for an event and arranging it all, and thanks too to Cheryl for providing the food.
Some of the plans for the proposed development were revealed and the sum of £350,000 is needed to provide this. There will be workshop, boat storage, camp storage, changing and shower facilities, training rooms, first aid room and an extensive look-out balcony to enable over-seeing of water activities, this providing excellent Sea Scout and Sea Ranger training opportunities and enabling extending the number of youngsters that can participate.

Very many thanks to everyone attending the Quiz in January, we raised £410, a fantastic and fun evening was had by all, and our grateful thanks goes to Holly and her team for compiling such a good variety of questions.
Our next fund raising event is going to be a Table Sale.
Thanks to all the families, leaders and friends who supported our Quiz night on Saturday 19th January. We raised a grand total of £402 for the group, so thank you to all those who came to support us and we hope you enjoyed it.
Once a again a huge thanks to Holly Whiteley for being the Quiz Master on the night and Angela for arranging the evening.
More fund raising events to follow in the Spring.
Following the successful trip last year, there will be a return trip to the Rotary Centre in Castleton. We will depart on Monday 1st April (Easter Monday) returning Monday 8th April 2013.
There will be a varied programme including hill walking, wild camping, swimming and we are hoping to introduce low level climbing and other activities. The centre consists of a dining hall, sports hall and a dormitory block, as well as playing fields. The dormitory block is a modern, centrally heated building with showers and bunk bed accommodation in rooms of four.

As many of you are now aware 3rd CB bought the former Fisherman’s Yard next door to The Den and over the next couple of years the Group will be fund raising enough money to build on this land and of course still be able to maintain The Den, our fleet of boats and continue to organise the varied activities and trips we run for the children.
