Sailing Dinghy Replacement Project

3rd Chalkwell Bay is a Royal Yachting Association Training Centre, introducing young people to the sea and teaching Scouts both in Leigh-on-Sea and further afield how to sail, drive power boats and row to national standards using a team of volunteer instructors qualifies by the sport’s national governing body.

2015-rya_sailing_courseOur fleet of 5 Wanderer sailing dinghies have provides the backbone of dinghy sailing training at 3rdCB for the past 20 years. They are now however beginning to show their age, and we are looking to replace them with newer boats that will encourage more young people to take up and join in sailing.

After much research we are looking to purchase 4 RS Quests or Topper Argos, which are lighter, easier to maintain and provide more commonality with our Topaz single-hander dinghies used for more advanced training. These

Topper argoWe need to raise £20,000 to make this project a reality. We are in the process of applying for grants to cover the majority of this cost, thus avoiding depleting our reserve funds which are used to subsidise activities (including sailing courses) and keep Scouting accessible for all. If you work for, represent or know of a company or organisation who sponsor youth projects, have skills to offer, have fundraising ideas or can help out with events or grant submissions please let us know.
