The Group’s fleet of sailing, rowing and power boats will be out on the water for people to use, and the event will be followed by a BBQ and party on the jetty afterwards.

We are hoping to make this as big celebration, with as many boats on the water as possible and jubilee decorations around the site. People are asked to come dressed in red, white and blue in honour of the Jubilee.

We’d like to get an idea of numbers attending so we can order food and drinks in before hand. If you’re interested please let us know by returning the slip sent out to all youth members, speaking to any of the section leaders, or emailing TheDen@3rdCB.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the celebration.

Well done to all Cubs, Scouts, Sea Rangers and Explorers (and of course the leader team, exec committee and army of supporters) for all the hard work preparing for the recent Royal Navy Inspection. On her first visit to The Den, the inspecting officer, Lt Cdr Karen Cahill RN, was particularly impressed with the turnout and smartness of all involved, not to mention the range of activities we’ve managed since the last inspection two years previously, and was pleased to renew 3rd Chalkwell Bay’s RN Recognition.

Read the full RN Inspection Report

Founded in 1931, 3rd Chalkwell Bay operates from a purpose built headquarters in the Old Town of Leigh on Sea in Essex, where we run a huge array activities and training for boys and girls ages 6 to 18 and beyond, and are recognised by the Royal Navy as one of the top 100 Sea Scout Groups in the country.

Being a Sea Scout Group a lot of our activities are based on the water and we have a great number of boats including Wanderers, Topazs, a Laser Stratos and a collection of safety and rowing boats to name a few, and we are an RYA Recognised Training Centre, giving formal sailing & power boating training to national standards most weekends. We also offer an array of land based activities and Scouting skills such as hiking, climbing, camping, and visits away.

The Group has four main sections, Beavers for 6-8 year olds, Cubs 8–10 years olds, Sea Scouts for boys aged 10 – 14 and Sea Rangers for girls aged 10-20. Ganges Explorer Scout Unit for 14-18 year olds also meets at The Den and has close ties with 3rdCB. All sections are led by a dedicated and experienced team of volunteers and qualified instructors. There is also an old boys (and girls) association called the Leigh Creek Guzzlers, which is open to anyone who has ever been associated with the Group.
