BRA LogoLearn to Row – British Rowing Stage 1 Course

The course will take you through the basics of rowing technique, both on and off the water, as well as basic navigation and safety.

You will need to bring suitable clothing for going afloat. Old clothes that can get wet (not jeans), or swimming gear if it’s warm, a towel and a change of clothes. You will also need some old trainers or boat shoes for your feet – wellies and bare-feet are not allowed. Buoyancy aids and waterproofs are provided at The Den.

RYA Sailing Stage 3

Better Sailing
Rigging, launching and sailing in any direction. By the end of the course you will be able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.

Pre-requisites: Unless agreed with the instructor team, you should have already completed the RYA Stage 1&2 course, plus at least 6 hours of practice logged over 3/4 sessions (either at The Den or your own sailing club).

Duration: This is a two day course running all weekend. Attendance is required on both days to complete the course.

Cost: £15. This is to cover the RYA youth sailing logbook (if required), certificate and safety boat fuel. (This is much less than cost price). The instructors are volunteers and are not paid.

Open boating session for any member of the Group to go on the water rowing, sailing or swimming. Sessions are always supervised by a suitable leader, and no experience is necessary.

There is no charge for participating in general boating, just ensure you are down in time good time for the briefing.

You will need to bring suitably warm clothing and footwear, which you don’t mind getting wet. Old trainers are fine, jeans and wellies are not appropriate. Improving Sailing Skills
Sail a double handed boat as crew or helm, and solve a variety of problems afloat. By the end of the course you will be able to launch and return to a beach, jetty or mooring, and sail a crewed dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.
