There will be a varied programme including hill walking, wild camping, swimming and we are hoping to include other activities such as cycling and low level climbing. The centre consists of a dining hall, sports hall and a dormitory block, as well as playing fields. The dormitory block is a modern, centrally heated building with showers and bunk bed accommodation in rooms of four.
The centre nestles under the Lose Hill and is a short walk from Edale and the Kinder Scout plateau. There are many challenging walks that can be completed without having to travel out from the centre in minibuses. There will also be the scope, weather permitting, to try out high camping that is an experience that will leave some great memories (Older children only). Level of walks is decided by age.
Departure / Return
Departure: Meet at The Den at 08:30 on Sat 8th April. All participants must wear Group polo shirts to travel to and from the activity. We will travel to Castleton in mini busses, arriving for a late lunch. Everyone will require a packed lunch.
Return: We will return on Saturday 15th April and aim to be back at The Den by 16:00 (traffic permitting). We’ll get the Scouts to call ahead if we’re going to be much earlier/later.
The cost of the trip this year is £230 each. The cost includes all transport, activities, accommodation, and food and represents excellent value for money. If you wish to pay by instalments then arrange the amounts you wish to pay, please indicate this on your form.
Numbers are limited to 40 Sea Scouts from both Troops (Renown and Solebay) and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Spare spaces will be offered to the Explorer Unit.
A deposit of £50 is required to secure your place. Forms and deposits should be returned as soon as possible (remember: first come, first served) and no later than Friday 24th February.
Walking boots (not DM’s) and decent waterproofs are essential for this trip. The Group has a number of good quality waterproofs and rucksacks that can be hired. There is a small hire charge of £5 per item be paid when borrowing equipment (e.g. if you borrow a waterproof jacket and trousers that would be a £10 charge), which helps cover the cost of cleaning, maintaining and replacing them. These borrowed items will be collected at the end of the week before we return home.
There will be a pre-trip briefing and meeting at The Den on Tuesday 14th March at 7.30pm, where we will discuss the plan for the week and clothing/kit requirements. Group hiking equipment will be available to hire at the end of this meeting. All persons attending the trip are required to attend.
