3rd Chalkwell Bay is recognised by the British Rowing Association (the national governing body for rowing in the UK) as a training centre under the Explore Rowing scheme. This means that we can teach, assess and award certificates of competence in rowing. This allows us to combine the teaching of the Scout Association’s water sports and pulling badges with nationally recognised qualifications.
Explore Rowing introduces a more flexible approach to rowing, using new, wider boats, as part of British Rowing’s drive to increase participation and create a thriving legacy for the sport. All Explore Rowing clubs are committed to finding new ways to row so that we can keep people participating whatever their lifestyle. It’s all about having fun, making friends, being healthy, and sometimes just escaping to a wonderful stretch of water. Training is carried out by qualified coaches using the Group’s fleet of rowing boats, and Drascombe Gig.
At present the group can run the following British Rowing courses for our members:
- Learn to Row Stage 1
- Learn to Row Stage 2
- Explore Rowing Assistant
