On Saturday 8 tand Sunday 9th December 2018\, it has been kindly agreed for Group members to take part in a fundraising event at Morrisons \, London Road\, Hadleigh. The idea is for members to be at the checkouts offering to pack customers shopping for a small donation to the group.

New Boating Centre3rd Chalkwell Bay have entered a team into HARP 24 to raise funds for Our Big Project – the new boating centre we’re building at our HQ i n Old Leigh.

HARP 24 is a 24 hour running race held at Westcliff R ugby Club on Aviation Way\, Southend. It starts at midday on Saturday 25th June and ends Sunday 26th at midday. The idea is to run as many laps as y ou can within that time\, in a team of any number up to 8. The event is fu n\, gruelling and exciting. You get to see the sunset\, run in the dark an d see sunrise again the next day.

The Group will be taking part in a fundraising event at Morrison’s in H adleigh\, assisting shoppers in packing their shopping bags for a small do nation to the Group.

In previous years we have raised several thou sand pounds doing this\; a significant amount of money that helps sustain our activities and equipment\, and keeping subs at a reasonable level.

\n

We will be there between 10 and 4 on Saturday\, and 11 and 3 on Sunda y. With around 170 Cubs\, Scouts and Explorers (not including the Leaders) we hope that everyone can attend for an hour or two so that we can have t wo people on each checkout.

\n

Please come in uniform – caps are not required but you are most welcome to wear a Christmas themed hat. As long as we get enough volunteers the time slots will be kept to a minimum.

\n

Please note there will be no food/drink supplied by the Group or Morr isons\, and you will need to dropped off and collected from the store. The re will be at least two leaders from various sections present throughout t o supervise and to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to Morrison’s or their customers.

The Leigh Regatta in Leigh-on -Sea is an annual community & charity event organised by the Sea Scout/Exp lorer Groups based in the Old Town along with the Leigh Lions. Each year\, the event raises money for nominated charities as well as for the local S cout Groups around Leigh-on-Sea.

T he prices are £16 for adults and £8 for children (under 10 years old)\, wh ich will include a three-course meal with a good selection of choices. Opt ions can be provided for Vegetarians\, Pescatarians and Vegans – please in dicate this on the form .

3 rdCB are entering a team for HARP24\, a 24 hour team running event raising money for 3rdCB and HARP\, Southend’s homeless charity.

The event takes place at Westcliff Rugby club on 23rd-24th June. The teams run (as best as possible) a non-stop relay for 24 hours. This can be run or walked \, and there is no target on the number or speed of laps. The objective is to have a personal challenge\, have fun (maybe dress up?)\, and raise som e funds for Harp and 3rd CB. No-one should feel they can’t contribute.

In 2016 our team of 8 comprising leaders\, fathers and friends raised over £1\,000. We all achieved more than expected\, we ate more BBQ than t he calories we ran off\, we slept (ish) under scout canvass and enjoyed th e experience of running through day\, night and twilight.
