Runners wanted for HARP 24 Hour Race

As part of the Group’s fundraising efforts for this year, we’re looking to revive the efforts of the HARP24 team of 2016 and look to put a team(s) together for this years event.

The event takes place at Westcliff Rugby club on 23rd-24th June. The teams run (as best as possible) a non-stop relay for 24 hours. This can be run or walked, and there is no target on the number or speed of laps. The objective is to have a personal challenge, have fun (maybe dress up?), and raise some funds for Harp and 3rd CB. No-one should feel they can’t contribute.

In 2016 our team of 8 comprising leaders, fathers and friends raised over £1,000. We all achieved more than expected, we ate more BBQ than the calories we ran off, we slept (ish) under scout canvass and enjoyed the experience of running through day, night and twilight.

“HARP24 is the 24 hour running festival taking place every June in South Essex. Solo runners and teams compete from midday on Saturday through to midday on Sunday. The winner in each category completes the most laps of our 4 mile course through the Essex countryside. Everyone from experienced ultra-runners to fun runners can take part, whilst raising money for HARP – Southend’s Homeless Charity.”

For 2018 we would like to put at least one team forward and are looking for anyone who wants to add this as a challenge to 2018 and help raise funds for the Den Building Project. You really don’t need to be an accomplished runner or walker, just someone who would like to join an event that provides a challenge and an opportunity to spread our fundraising to a wider audience. We would prefer mixed groups so please step up.

The only restrictions are you need to be over 18, able to commit to raising over £40 to cover our entry costs and willing to take your turn on the BBQ as the team mates return.
