December has been a busy month for fundraising at 3rdCB. We started off with a new venture – singing Christmas Carols to commuters at Leigh Station on their way home. Led by Ralph Faulkes (aka Mr Baloo) the choir raised £407 over a couple of hours on a cold Tuesday evening – thank you to all those who came along and sang, as well as the generous commuters of Leigh, and to C2C for having us.
The next weekend we were in Morrison’s in Hadleigh helping shoppers pack their bags and spreading Christmas cheer in return for small donations. These worked out at over £1325 over two days thanks to the kindness of Morrison’s customers, along with a letter from the store’s Community Champion praising the efforts of the Scouts and inviting us back again soon.
Finally, Scout parent Giles Starkey has been busy on behalf of the Group as well. Giles was sponsored to sail 2,700 miles across the Atlantic from Grand Canaria to St Lucia as part of the ARC Rally on the 48′ yacht EH01. Giles raised over £1,250 for the Group’s new boating centre project (there still time to donate if you haven’t already), and arranged further donation of £3,500 from his employers at First State Investments – Thank you very much for all your work Giles.
If you have any ideas for fundraising activities, would like to donate, of if your company would be filling to support us, please get in contact. All funds raised are going towards our New Boating Centre Project and general operating costs to keep Scouting in Old Leigh affordable for all.
